If 50x zoom is not enough, you can get a manufacturer refurbished Nikon P900 with 83x zoom for $499: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Nikon-Coolpix-P900-REFURB-Digita…
My bro got the P900, now second to the 1000. Paparazzi dream, all bedroom windows in his town got now curtains.Birds take off faster.. As value for money I would still lean towards the Canon where the jpeg output compared to My Nikon D3300 which really wants RAW processed to shine.
Would this be a good camera for someone who doesn't like to fiddle with stuff? My mum uses a Samsung Galaxy Camera (the actual camera not the phone) but it's starting to get really slow and playing up a lot. We have a couple newer cameras but they have too many settings and stuff for her, so looking for a very simple camera to use, leave it on the one setting for majority of shots, and really good zoom.
Never heard of a galaxy camera. Couldn't they come up with a different name, how confusing.
It's old. From 2012. It's called the Galaxy Camera because it ran Android.
it looks awesome
50x zoom will be handy for social distancing
I prefer Canon SX740HS due to its size.
This SX540Hs size too big to bring inside the concert venue, many venues not allow you to bring this kind of size of camera.
Or shut your eyes and feel the music, man.

How do these compare to say … one of the older EOS models 1100d ?
It's a completely different kind of camera.
$259 seems like an appropriate price for a 4 year old model
I took a Canon sx50hs and a Canon 6d and a 24-105L lens to the Australian open. The first night they let me in with both. The second night they read 1200mm on the little one and said you can't bring it in as the limit is 200mm
Cropping a photo taken with the 6d at 105mm gave me more detail that the sx50hs at 1200mm.
So, image quality wise, any recent (say within 4 years) Canon DSLR with a STM kit lens will probably out resolve this little one.
Also, aiming a photo at 1200mm is not easy. Wobble-ville! And that's just when trying to frame photo.
I picked one of these up refurbished from Sony for just over $300. Love the size:

How does this compare with a phone camera like a samsung s8+ for video recording? Is it only for zooming? Pretty happy with the video quality on my phone but wondering if this would be any better. Thanks!
Can you use this as a high end webcam? As in can you disable auto shutdown and can you connect it via USB or mini HDMI to a capture device?

Not sure why you'd want a 50x zoom camera, unless you're streaming your neighbours or need a super close up of the inside of your nose for telehealth.
These cameras cost a lot solely for the zoom capability, would be much better off buying a standard point and shoot for <$100. Unless you are streaming your neighbours, in which case I'll be on my way…
Bought one of these over a year ago for $299 so don't be fooled by the RRP.
Apart from the zoom, the image quality is not particularly impressive. If you have a reasonably new phone that is probably going to be better.
Thanks
Thanks!
Can I use this to zoom in on my neighbour?
I want a P900 but they hold their value too much.
50x optical zoom is good for watching concert in 2022
