Spoilers for a 23 year old game..

    • +2

There's been plot changes and additions.

      • I wouldn't consider they change anything unless they keep you know who alive

        • Voldemort?

    • +4

Not disputing but what reviews? Played the demo and it was great. Early impressions seems positive as well…

    • +6

The game is not even officially released worldwide, so yes…what review? I have been playing it for 5 hours so far i enjoy it.

      • -2

The game is not even officially released worldwide

Since you don't seem to know how things work, game publishers usually give out review copies to game review sites to play before global release and is usually tied with some NDA.

This has led to a few interesting dynamics. One of which is exclusivity in who the publisher decides who gets a review copy and who doesn't. Sometimes when review sites negatively review a game, it will obviously have a negative impact on game sales. This leads to the game publisher giving biased reviews in an attempt to stay on the good side.

The review by IGN on Warcraft: Refunded is a huge example of this. Their review is so out of line with 90% of the community.

And here's a recent example of exclusivity:

irrelevant example bro, give us bad example of ffviiR early review.

          • -6

@Taro Milk Tea: That is absolutely a relevant example of the point I am making. You didn't even read and you couldn't probably summarise what I'm saying.

            • @Blitzfx: lol ok

            • +1

@Blitzfx: I read what you wrote, several times bro. You had a compelling story about seeming to understand the video game industry (one of which I've been involved for 9 years) then collapsed that argument by not mentioning the topic in question, FFVII Remake.

Being clever about something irrelevant does not make you smart.

              • @ThePriceMatchGuy: You didn't read it either.

The game is not even officially released worldwide, so yes…what review?

Making false association that just because something hasn't been officially released worldwide doesn't mean there aren't going to be any reviews.
This is relevant to Remake and every single game release out there.

                • @Blitzfx: Oh I read it, time I'll never get back unfortunately.

J1W's original comment CLEARLY states that reviews for this remake (FFVII Remake) have been negative. That statement is false as no reviews CURRENTLY exist in publication at this moment in time.

No question that reviews exist, the company I'm associated with has one ready to go 6AM AEST on Friday 10 April. But that wasn't the point.

                  • @ThePriceMatchGuy: I wasn't arguing whether or not any reviews exist or not.
I'm arguing that before release day = no reviews is false, regardless of whether there ARE any for FF remake

That's like saying aliens exist because no one can explain full explain the Big Bang. Just because X-thing happens doesn't mean Y-thing is the cause.

For someone working in publishing reviews, I'm surprised this is beyond you. I guess it's one thing to read and another to actually understand what is being said.

                    • +1

@Blitzfx: I’m a little lost as to why you’ve taken up the mantel for J1W, by taking part (the wrong part) of Taro Milk Tea question and running with it, when really it was regarding reviews specifically to FFVII remake?

                      • -1

@2024: Because there are nuances in every discussion, and the shitty line of thinking, ie. making factually wrong statements like A-must be true because of B, is why there is so much disinformation everywhere especially in politics, which pisses me off.

For the record, I don't care if these negative reviews exist or not, or if there are even ANY reviews for the full game.

    • +4

Also curious to know what reviews are being referred to here. Even the reviews for the demo which was released last month have been positive.

I might be biased cause of the nostalgia factor, but I've put around 3 hours so far and loved it.

      • +7

Also also curious to know what reviews are being spoken about here.. Got my partner to pick it up and she's never played a FF game before, I don't think she's gone to sleep yet! LOL

        • +1

Also also also curious because I got it yesterday and it’s great.

      • I suspect any negative reviews were based around that this isn't the full game - it's only Midgar but apparently has been expanded. I agree with the negativity for the most part, mainly because the advertising barely mentions (if at all) that it's not the complete game.

    • +3

Please post something to prove that statement. Having played a few hours myself now, I am absolutely blown away by it. Sqenix have done a fantastic job. And most chatter I’ve seen online seems to agree with my thoughts. I’m yet to see any reviews out, and very little negative commentary.

  • i played 3 hours last night and loved it, paid full price though :(

  • Played the 1st hour last night. Isn’t going to win game of the year but it’s an awesome throwback and felt like I was 12 years old again

    • Wait until you're about 3 hours in. Great nostalgia hit at the start but after that it is definitely not the game you grew up with.

      • it is definitely not the game you grew up with.

never was intended to be it anyway

  • Never got a chance to head into store and collect my pre-order yesterday, definitely will be heading in now! I'm coming Aerith!

  • Literally bought this last night online from HN for $78. Argh. Oh well.

For those interested in online ordering, I purchased last night around 7pm, and they've already sent it off as of 9:30am this morning, so should be quick delivery.

  • Big W has it for $69. Have to ask for them to get it out as there is no marketing or dispaly boxes. Handy if you dont have a HN close by

    • Went instore to buy it today when EB wouldnt pricematch (??) and bought it for $79. Damn.

      • +1

That's what you get for shopping at eb

        • -2

No, that's what you get for not understanding your rights as a consumer.

          • @ThePriceMatchGuy: How is getting turned down for a price match not understanding your rights as a consumer…

            • -2

@chris666: Because a price match with EB Games is a part of our company policy. The only time you will be refused a price match is if the competitor does not have stock, the price is not the same at the time of match or that it originates from an online only store. #facts

    • +3
      • Was definitely $69 at Mirrabooka yesterday. Will see if I can find and upload receipt

        • All good mate, you don't need to. It's $79 at Big W Australia wide.

  • Can ask to price match with JB HI FI pretty easily.

I'm enjoying it so far, 2 hours in. I'm a big FF fan and it's very much more FF15 than FF7 so far but enjoying the updated visuals and everything else seems quite nice.

    • +1

it's very much more FF15 than FF7 so far but enjoying the updated visuals and everything else seems quite nice.

This is what FFXV supposed to be like…I can sort of understand now why they decided to make this episodic. Sector 7 is so awesome.

      • I'm a fan of FF, need to disclose that. I definitely would say my time with VII (even just the demo) is leaps and bounds more enjoyable than XV unfortunately. Don't get me wrong, it was fun but I felt like finishing the game became a chore..

        • Yeah I am in the same boat as you, FFXV is definitely an incomplete game when it's released.

I feel sorry for the director of ffxv, so much pressure to release this game when SE at that time was also doing KH3 and they were lacking of human resources.

FFXV could have been a great game…but anyway it's financially successful anyway.

        • +1

i brought the original edition back in 1997 for $77 from target so this price isn't too bad.

I've tried to avoid the hype for the past few years about the remake. i have to say after playing the demo, i have to say that the graphic were jaw dropping it kinda rekindle the same experience i had 23 years ago.

although the gameplay felt more like DMC and cinematics from a Kojima game, it still a well polished demo. i don't think i will purchase at the launch price will wait for a 6 months or a years when it least than $50

          • @godofpizza:

i brought the original edition back in 1997 for $77 from target so this price isn't too bad.

            damn…it cost $77 back in 1997??

gameplay is more than DMC's after you play it for quite a while. I had my scepticism before I played this, but now I can see the strategic element in it.

            • @Taro Milk Tea: yep, back when Target still running their 12.5% off sales.

Was an ozbargainer before it was a thing

I have to have my pocket money to pay for the layby over 4 weeks. after chrono trigger/sercet of mana. FF& really brought the FMV's to gaming.

            • @Taro Milk Tea: I had the PC version which I seem to recall was $99.95. I remember paying (well, my parents paying) $120-130 for N64 games too.

After you also take inflation into account, games these days are a bargain.

  • +1

Damn out of stock everywhere close to me, might have to just stick with my Amazon order, even though it won't arrive until next week :(

    • Keep checking back as they may update stock level. Dandenong VIC shows as in stock now

      • Checked now and Dandenong is out too.

Might've sold within the last 20 minutes haha.

Did you call them or just check the site?

        • +1

I just checked the site. Placed an order whilst it showed as in stock but the order is still "under review" for some reason and now it's out of stock again so I don't know if I made it in time. Oh well..

  • Is it worth playing if I’ve never played final fantasy in my life? It’s a remake so I’m a tad worried it’s more a nostalgic kind of thing

    • +3

I think this game is even better for someone who never play FF before, providing you like RPG games.

  • Caringbah Harvey Norman refused to sell copy in store, said release date is 10 April, even though website says otherwise. Got it price matched at JB

    • I had the same problem yesterday even after explaining to my local HN that EB, JB etc had it for sale as the street date was broken. At the time, HN were still showing it as pre-order. He couldn’t grasp the concept. Bought from JB online instead…

  • I can't wait to be traumatized again, this time in HD!!! Zack X Aerith.

    • Isn’t the first game only the Midgar section? Shouldn’t be any heartbreak in this one yet?

      • I'm not sure. Midgar wasnt that big.

Things I'm looking forward to RED XIII!!!!, Getting the dress for Cloud and Aerith at the Forgotten City.

        • They made Midgar much bigger and that’s all this game is. Red XIII is not a fully playable character in this one - you can get him for a little bit I think but does not have progression and stuff like the other characters.

  • +8

Rather pay a little extra someplace else than support Gerry Harvey.

Site is called OzBargain. Please take your political views elsewhere. Nearly all your comments are negative and arent warranted. No cares about your views.

    • +2

Yeah he's the reason there's an import tax now

      • +5

Guess the nerds are sounding their opinion too, just as you did towards the game. =D

        • +1

hehe some people are just funny aren't they, they don't like people doing the same to them.

    • +3

If you're over 18 and still calling people nerds it's kinda pathetic.

  • Can't find it for sale anywhere. Out of stock at HN. Out of stock at JB. EB had stock, but the guy was rude and refused to price match.

Just have to keep waiting I guess.

  • +5

I’m only buying this for Tifa, nothing else

    • +1

Well yeah, this product is just Tifa that happens to come with a cool 50 hour long JRPG mini-game

    • You mean Tits-fa?

  • +3

FF7 was my life for a few years in high school and even had a cool binder with cutouts of magazines and my own handwritten guides (that one of my friends stole at some point). I have completed it every 5 years or so since.

I have not actively been following this and was actually on the fence picking it up, if it was on the switch or PC would be more likely - but have dusted off the PS4 and ordered this now.

The main thing that made me change my mind are the comments of the fellow FF7 fans above, so thanks guys for twisting my arm!

    • +2

You are welcome! Prepare to be amazed!

    • +3

SE has said many times that this is a "new game experience", if you have an open mind about it, this game will be amazing for you.

      Enjoy it!!!!

      TIFA LOOKS SO AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!

      • Nothing like brand new Tifa to remind me of my teenage years!

  • I refreshed the HN page and it came up as in stock at a store which was previously out of stock.

I'd say just keep an eye on it and check back occasionally.

  • No stock around east suburbs of Melbourne, guess I'll have to wait.

  • If i buy online do i still need to wait till the 10th for it to be mailed in?
    Not seeing any instock.

    • All gone bro, better luck next time!

    • +1

I purchased last night from HN and they sent it out this morning. Australia has broken street date everywhere, so all retailers are selling it and shipping it off early.

  • -5

Full price for 1/4 part of game.

  • -1

I will get this when it drops to the $40> just got bannerlord 2 the other day which ive been looking forward to for about 2 years

I honestly dont think it should be 68$ but it is a legendary JRPG so it will sell hot for the 1st 2-3 months but it will then drop massively in price there after it is almost worth buying smashing it over 2 weeks and re selling it on ebay

  • Bought it yesterday but wouldn't honour my order as they said offical release is the 10th even tho the confirmation says out now. And other retailers have already released the game on squares official notice. Called the Chadstone store and they confirmed they had copies but wont allow pick up until the 10th

  • For those who have it, hows it compare to the demo (graphics, gameplay etc). Improved or same

    • It's much better in everything, except graphic is all the same with what you see in the demo.

  • I haven't got mine yet, no update, anyone got theirs?

    • I've cancelled mine as soon as they gone from in stock to back order.
