Just when you thought fuel couldn't get any cheaper. Get in before the US Military invades Earlwood!
Remember that fuel excise is 42.3 cents per litre exclusive of GST, so this fuel is effectively being given away for nothing.

Wait for the E10 naysayers
E10 ok for my 1992 Toyota Celica?
REV UP YOUR ENGINES!!!
Is that a yes?
Also, i only have one engine :(
Not really for old car.
E10? Nay, I say.
E10? Yay, I say!
Nay, I say, unless it's really freaking cheap then I'll do it.
This is really freaking cheap.
@sween64: nay, unless you're planning on changing car's every few years to avoid the engine/seal wear maintenance.
@Lighter Fluid: "Every few years?" Pfft. Old wives tales.
If you own it for a long time you might need to do it once more. If you're unlucky. There's plenty of other things to fail and devalue your car before that happens.
Might as well reduce a known daily cost.
@justtoreply: I hardly think that a few tanks of E10 a ye as to will kill a car. Do you honestly believe that??
@b2dz: No. You replied to the wrong person.
@justtoreply: Sincerest apologies kind sir.
Very few reasons not to get E10…
I'll give you one. Diesel…
(other than if it doesn't go in your car lmao)
They shut at 7PM, i wouldn't be able to even get there in time sadly.
Just drive faster - it'll make more room in your tank, too.
They don’t shut at 7pm. I filled up there on Monday night at around 10pm (for what I thought was a good price of 84.9!) Now the rebel petrol across the road is beating them by 0.4c lol (83.5)
Fuelcheck said they close at 7pm
Just wondering any problem with the LED display XD
The FuelCheck app also says 49.9
My thanks go out to the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia and Vladimir Putin for starting an oil price war in the middle of a global economic downturn.
Worst timing ever for people working in O&G!
Real bad for the Canadians. Their heavy crude oil is worth pennies per barrel.
perhaps they would be better off just bypassing all the nasties and mine pennies instead?
That's unbelievable
makes you wonder if they dropped off a 1 in front
+1 for the photo of the queue and petrol station.
It should be normal price of our petrol right now not as a deal
How to extract ethanol for consumption
*for hand sanitiser
*for consumption
You want e85 for that.
OK, por que no los dos
+1 for the description
Why do people hate E10? My understanding is it's better than U91, worse than U95.
Too much alcohol :)
Because it is a monopoly of one. Who lunched with the minister 20 or so times, the minister made it mandatory for servos with more than a certain number of pumps to have at least one pump of e10.
Less km per tank. Burns hotter because 10% ethanol so less efficient. Can damage fuel pumps and lines if car is not tuned for ethanol fuels.
Run it long enough and your oil will sludge up and cost big $$$ come service time.
Ethanol burns cooler than petrol. Some people run E85 in engines (for racing applications) purely because it's a cooler burning fuel.
Yes, but anyone who runs E85 knows that you go through fuel filters, pumps and other fuel system components much faster than with regular fuels. That's even if you buy specific E85 rated parts.
Maybe change your oil at regular intervals.
and rings too by the sound of it
"Can damage fuel pumps and lines if car is not tuned for ethanol fuels."
Good thing that any car or pump that uses e10 is tuned for it then eh?
"Run it long enough and your oil will sludge up and cost big $$$ come service time."
Changing oil at regular intervals has been standard practice for centuries.
Got any other reasons?
They're aren't suitable for old cars since they can cause engine damage (such as corrosion among other things). However, most car that are 20 years or younger are fine to run on ethanol.
Let's ignore all the old mate tales for now, but there's simply less energy in E10 than U91.
Not 10% less, but still less.
The price is not normally as cheap as you would want for E10 to be worthwhile.
No. All petrol has the same amount of energy in it, overall.
It is the difference in Octane, that allows for a different burn, giving perceived more energy for a given amount of petrol, as the more premium petrols will take you further.
Ethanol has less energy per litre than petrol. So if you dilute petrol with 10% ethanol, you are lowering the amount of energy you get.
@coxymla: Maybe I'm thinking of the difference between RULP and PULP
Energy volume of Ethanol is 30% less than Petrol, so for E10 it's 3% less.
So if the cost difference is greater than 3% (right now at my local servo it's 4%), then E10 is cost effective.
It's worse than all of them in regards to efficiency and longevity of car parts. It's about 3% less efficient than pure 91 unleaded petrol. So factor the 3% extra petrol in your pricing calculations, although remember that these days regular U91 could be spiked with up to 5% ethanol anyway.
What 😱 I can't remember fuel ever being this cheap
I’m old enough to remember “Super” being ~20c/L 👴🏻
They were the good old days.
I think fuel was low 80's when I got my licence.
If only everything else could go down in price like in those days. Life would be much better
Dont forget wages were down as well, and taxes higher
@RockyRaccoon: I remember, do you think our wage growth is fair with the current pricing of everything these days 🙄
I highly doubt it, in the past year alone tobacco has shot up through the roof. Me buying a packet of jets say a year and a half ago from $17 to these days which is $39.
That's a big jump yet my wage hasn't moved a sniff. Not to mention everything else that's gone up
@Bretttick: Well its so very hard to compare.
Taxes were higher, and also no superannuation was deducted.
Unfortunately most dont think superannuation is part of the wage, but it is. Just like wages before tax are really the wages paid. And employers also pay payroll taxes.
We are deluded into believing things like GST and ancillary taxes aren't paid by us. In the end they are.
Also when fuel prices were that low other things were in play. Less fuel tax, more delivery cost (Service Station attendants vs self service). Also wages were much lower if you were under 21 years.
And cars were more expensive and less fuel efficient. Cars of the early 50's needed re-rings every 60K miles (100K Kms) and came with 6 months warranty. Some cars now are warranted upto 7 years and unlimited Kms (Kia). Most never re-ring a modern motor
Dont build them like the used to - Thank bloody heaven!
Like everything its never a simple comparison.
@RockyRaccoon: Everything is paid by us taxpayers, whoever thinks not is living under a rock
I remember bring a teenager, and mum driving 10 minutes away to another servo because the normal was was 53.5c a litre, and the knew she'd be able to find it for 53.3 somewhere
Could the alcohol in the e10 be diverted to make sanitizer? There must be oceans of the stuff still…
No. It's 10% ethanol. You need 60%-85% to kill germs effectively. Better off using e85 fuel thats 85% ethanol. Or hit up a ethanol fireplace store's. Plenty sell ethanol in 5l containers for $30.
Yes, you can simply distill it off. So you could get a litre of 70% ethanol for $3.49 plus your energy costs to run a stove and exhaust for a bit.
Assuming you have distillation equipment already of course.
One of my earliest memories of petrol pricing was it being this price… around 1985 prices
Not even that far back!
late 90's it wasn't higher than this was it?
It was 20 cents a litre or even lower in 1985. 49.9 cents per litre was the price during the early 90's
They aren't wrong
https://www.gettyimages.com.au/detail/news-photo/petrol-pric…
I came to Australia in 1997 and recall being surprised at how cheap petrol was at about 65-69c/litre. I recall people getting upset when it tipped 70 cents for the first time.
That's why I can't remember, would of been a 1 year old at the time.
Now just need house prices to go back to the same it was back in those days. That will make my day 😀
83.9 now, expired?
April fool's joke?
am i the only one who thought this was a 7 eleven price and rushed to lock in
WTF!!! How????
That should be normal price with current oil prices.
Remember that 46c/L is government fuel excise and GST, so 3c per litre?
It must be free. Petrol stations pay 3 cents per litre for cost of delivery.
83.9c confirmed
So who actually filled up at that price?
Apparently a further 5c/L off first 3 months if you sign up for a Metro card (ABN required).
Does this mean at 44.9cpl (cost with Metro card discount) they will be effectively "paying you" to buy fuel?
IMO E10 only worth buying if >10% cheaper over unleaded 91 (which this is) AND your vehicle is specifically designed as E10 compatible.
E10 does go bad or expire after 3 weeks, due to alcohol attracting water. Think this deal as price markdown food in the supermarket. You can hardly find U91 dropped like this.
The paradox of having cheap fuel but nowhere you can go apart from the supermarket or doctors!
Sorry, I only get premium from now on as of about a week ago and probably until next week.
This is below cost price. https://thenewdaily.com.au/finance/consumer/2020/04/01/low-f…
