Are SSD Deals Gone for The Forseeable Future?

I've been looking for some 250/256GB SSD's and have found prices double to triple what they were pre-COVID-19.

Should I just buy a few spares now, anyway?

I'm thinking all electronic parts like SSD, HDD, & RAM will all being heading upwards soon, if not already.

Opinions?

Stay home, stay safe, everyone who can!

  • AUD will push up prices on imported items, but declining sales will likely see some discounting of local stock as businesses seek to keep selling.
Not sure how that works for SSDs, if there are meaningful stocks out in retail.

  • Stock up on ssd??… You going to wipe your ass with it?.

  • +1

SSD's were artificially cheap during 2019. Chip prices were tanking from excess supply, and the businesses were getting terrible returns on the insane amount of capital they have to invest in chip factories.

2020 prices are starting to return to something more sustainable.

    eg:

"while Samsung yet has to announce its Q1 2019 results, it has already warned investors that its profits for the quarter would be down 60% compared to Q1 2018"

For SSD and RAM prices, this will likely be the new normal. HDD prices should come back down once the coronavirus issues pass

  • I really should have picked up a few more the last times there were decent deals, like a 240/250 for around $30-35. But as I don't do a lot of replacements, I generally let clients choose their own and buy it locally when their HDD has died. Most are elderly so don't need anything larger than 256GB (even that, would be overkill).

I guess we'll see what happens next.

    • How much was a Samsung 860 Evo 500gb or a Crucial Mx500 500gb??
They are now around 120 to 140 AUD.

      • i remember getting Samsung 860 Evo 1tb for about 170 last year
