Travel insurance resumption of journey?

Hi all,

I was on a holiday overseas and because of the corona virus we had to come back home early.

My holiday and travel insurance was made back in November last year before the virus news.

We left on the 15th March knowing We would have to be in self isolation when we returned after 2 weeks away.

The airline cancelled our flights and the Aust government said for all aussies to come back now, so we managed to get an earlier fit home , the airline didn’t charge us because our fly was cancelled.

We were only away for 6 day out of 15.

We lost our hotel booking etc,

I read in the insurance cover (Chubb) that there is a resumption of journey cover , its impossible to call them at the moment to ask, but would I be able to make a claim and get back over there later to “resume” our holiday?

Government issues travel warning saying do not travel
.. Goes on Holiday anyways and now wants Insurance to pay.

    • They booked in November, and bought their travel insurance in November.
They are now asking if their insurance will pay for the disruption to their plans.
I don't know why you buy insurance but most people buy it for stuff like this.

They should not have left the country, there was a travel warning in place.
Using your TI for not being able to travel is one thing, but leaving when all guidance says do not and then expecting the TI to pay is another

Check your travel insurance policy, most policies have a clause that they will not cover any loss arising from travel to a country where the government has issued a travel warning.
On March 13th DFAT issued level 3 or level 4 warning for every country in the world.
By choosing to travel overseas after that warning you have probably done one of the most socially irresponsible things anyone can ever do.

  • Tough crowd, okay so when left I called the travel insurance company and they I’m covered as I got the travel insurance before the known event of corona.
There was no travel ban, this happened after we left and is the reason we came home early.
We could of stay but didn’t want to take the risk of not getting back home as many people have now encountered.
I was just asking as we had to cut our trip short because of the travel ban we receive when overseas, that there might be a way to continue the trip after this is all over?

There was no travel ban but there was a Government travel advisory saying "Reconsider your need to travel", yet you traveled…

      Sure try travelling next year.

No one can answer this question because 'it depends' and OZB is not your insurance company.

Update, the insurance company will cover the hotel and flights as I had the insurance cover before it was known. Hope this helps others
