  • Thank op worked :)

That's really cool that they're doing a 0% pick up fee for restaurants.

    • +2

Agree. Quite often we jump all over big business when they make any missteps but rarely give them kudos when they do something good like this. Well done Ubereats

      • -2

LOL didn't expect to get a bunch of downvotes for a comment like that, but whatever makes you feel good folks

        • +1

Why do you care about internet down vote?

          • @michaelTito: Attack on the Internet feels

          • -3

@michaelTito: LOL I don't. I think its funny! You can say something completely innocuous and people get upset for whatever reason

      • +4

They aren't doing this for the restaurants. They are doing this to train ppl to use UberEats instead of ordering direct to a restaurant and then fk them over with fees later on. All on the guise of doing something 'nice'.

If you want to support the restaurants and hospitality industry is, please order direct. They need every bit of revenue they can to survive and keep some staff employed.

        • +2

Yep, Uber Eats have a whole heap more restaurants on their platform now.

A lot of potential future revenue after this crisis that they might have not had.

I don't know how restaurants can afford 30-35% commission. It makes me uncomfortable.

  • Thanks, worked for me :)

  • Great, it works for me

  • +6

About time too uber .. 35% robbery the rest of the time ..

  • Nice thanks finally a code that works for me

  • +10

Consider just calling the place direct and order over the phone. I know that you get 20% off this time around via UE, but next time you do it, UE will still get their cut from the order value and right now the vendors themselves will need every dollar they can get..

    • +5

next time you do it, UE will still get their cut from the order value

"all restaurants will pay no service fees on pick up orders until 30 June.".

      • So does this mean that they don't make a single dollar from the pickup order transactions between now and 30 June (and this one deal would actually cost them money)?

(Genuine question here, not trying to bait you.)

        • -2

          No they still make money

    • I may lose my job so I also need every dollar I can get

      • -1

        I thought Uber was cool?

  • so we still pay a 15% surcharge for picking up our own food? How generous lol

    • +6

There are costs to support the Uber Eats infrastructure platform, you can't expect for free.
If you have some spare time, feel free to develop an app, pay to host it on AWS or Azure and then release it to all merchants at no cost.

      • +2

I Understand your perspective, but why would an app exist for you to pay MORE money for no extra convenience? That business model doesn't make sense, and I feel like that's what Sauce was trying to get at.

        • +2

          no extra convenience

Uh…. you can see the menu and prices online, order it easily and see gps of when the delivery is picked up and delivered, guarantee level of service/quality and get a refund easily if it is subpar etc.

You really think calling up a restaurant and hoping they answer the phone, where they shout over crowded/noisy kitchen and try to take your order is the same? Wat.

          • +1

@watwatwat: Think they're talking about the pick-up option, not delivery.

            • @fishface1: Above still valid, just not the delivery. Being able to see the menu, prices, add notes and order online is great. Would happily pay the small premium for it.

      • +2

What benefit does Uber Eats have over just calling the shop and ordering and paying less?

        • +1
          1. Convenience, seeing feedback. Holding businesses accountable.
          2. Not having to talk to people and seeing what's open in one check
          • +1

            @aerona:

            1. What's the difference from Google reviews which would likely have more reviews, than Uber eats?
            2. You really dislike telling a stranger when you want to order?
        • -2

Not all places do take away.

          • @Bryanalves: I've never seen a restaurant offer dine in and Uber eats only.

        • Uber still gets 30% or so of the sale.

  • Great deal :)

  • +1

Got a new number so made a new account with ubereats. I now already have 2 promo codes including this one.
NEVER got promo codes once previously… Now that I'm a "new" customer..

  • Didn't seem to work from the browser, but worked fine from the app. Thanks OP

  • +1

So Ubereats charges 30% from the restaurants, gives us 20% off code, so we pay 10% extra to order via Ubereats. Might as well order from the store directly and pick it up

    • Not exactly.

      E.g
      $10 meal.
      Add 30% is now $13.
Take away 20% from $13 and its now $10.40

      4% extra.

    • +3

Pretty much. It's actually cheaper for me to order from the store directly even with the 20% code, because stores increase their prices to offset the high commission that UEs take.

      Order from direct pickup $24.70
Order from uber eats with 20% pick up $27.10

      • Where are you guys getting this from?
I checked a few restaurants around me and their website and ubereats prices are identical.
Are you saying you call up and get them for prices minus ubereats commission? How brazen.

        • No, i'm saying I've ordered from establishments directly and on UEs multiple times before, so the price difference become apparent. $11.9 (direct price) for a curry is a lot different than $14.9 (UE price).

  • Uber is COVID 20, they charging already suffering business 30% of sales and then offering 20% to customers.

    • +1

Usually true, but Uber Eats is currently charging businesses 0% commission until June 30, as mentioned in the description and posted in this deal.

  • +4

Uber Eats is supporting local restaurants

UberEats are NOW supporting local restaurants… Because they'll go broke without them!

I'm sick of marketing nonsense being placed on bargain info. Sorry OP tis a great deal though! Thanks

    • +1

Yep. They aren't really supporting them. They are trying to take Pickup ordering which is usually direct so they take a cut later.

If UberEats were sincere with this, they'd reduce their delivery commission charged on orders for the time being.

  • Couldn't use it at my local Zambrero's for some reason.

Just stood in line and saved 6$ anyway on a meal for 3 people.

  • +1

why the (profanity) would you use uber eats if you're going to go pick it up yourself?

why the (profanity) are they encouraging people to go out and get things? delivery is safer for all involved. that is also govt policy.

    • Did you see the pictures of St Kilda beach in Melbourne today? People don't care

      • They care about themselves, they think they aren't going to get it. It is this idea of themselves being invincible. But really they are making the wrong social signals.

  • It’s only valid until the first of April. Is this some sort of a joke?

    • +1

Wait till Apr 1 and you might be fooled :D

  • Thanks op

  • damn… few places I wanted to try jacked up their prices lol, and after the 20% discount, it came out the same as if I were to order direct.

Will Uber Eats let the shop owner keep 100% of the jacked up price? If so, then I'll order via UberEats so the restaurant gets more $$$
