These do absolutely no benefit to your teeth other than giving you a novelty to brush longer.

But let me guess, as you're a dentist you can't show your face on the internet? Is your name Rob by any chance?

wtf, my other dentist sell these themselves, so whose words should we take?

    • O Rly? Wouldn't it benefit us lazy people?

That assumes that people know how to use a normal toothbrush correctly.

Here is some information not based on opinion

      http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9797055
Overall, the results of this study demonstrated that sonic toothbrushing significantly reduced plaque, gingival inflammation and bleeding, and probing pocket depths around implants over the 6-month trial period. It is concluded that sonic brushing is an effective means of dental implant maintenance.

      http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9487840
These results clearly demonstrate that the Sonicare sonic toothbrush is superior to a manual toothbrush in improving periodontal health in adolescent orthodontic patients with existing gingivitis.

      http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7608846
On average, the plaque reduction from the baseline score for the sonic toothbrush was 3 times greater than the manual brush

If you read that and think you will buy a sonic toothbrush, don't.

The type which has a rotating head is more effective than a sonic toothbrush however a manual toothbrush is nearly as good as any electric toothbrush.

    • So it doesn't benefit you? Fine, what's the harm? At lot of people like things that doesn't benefit them.

Some people may like using an electric toothbrush.

    • i have a question. ive heard that these provide no benefit over using correct technique with a manual toothbrush (brother is dental student), but what if ur technique is bad? will this auto correct it so to speak? thus giving that individual a benefit over a manual toothbrush?

      • will this auto correct it so to speak?

It will not correct the way you brush.
What i mean by that is if you use a manual toothbrush the wrong way now and change to an electric toothbrush when you change back to a manual toothbrush you will still brush your teeth incorrectly (An electric toothbrush will not teach you how to use a manual toothbrush)

thus giving that individual a benefit over a manual toothbrush?

As long as you keep using the electric toothbrush you will stop damaging your gums which you are likely doing if you are using a manual brush incorrectly.

That also assumes that you use an electric toothbrush correctly.
If you use an electric toothbrush (the rotary type) and push it too hard against your teeth then you will do even more damage than the manual toothbrush.

  • shaver shop are selling these for $23.95 if you would rather pick up than get it delivered. i bought 3 today.

no deal, I picked up 3 from reject shop a few months ago and they were $12 each. This basic sonic model dose give you a novelty but not as efficient as my truimph 5500.

    • still at $12 at reject shop. found it pretty good for nicotine stain removal. but after a while, we switched to the professional 500 which is much better. (btw, bought that from ebay uk store for $60 delivered )

  • I bought this on sale ($20) after my Philips sonicare died & disappointed, it has no power at all. Sonic complete is better or Philips is even better.

  • I got the Sonic from the Reject shop for $12 a while back as well(I bought it cause they told me all brush heads would fit it, thats not true.) Its weird at first but I kinda like it now. Cleans pretty well.

Just bought some generic sonic brush heads from Ebay.co.uk for under $3 each and they are fine.
