  • Silicon Power

    Silicon is an inert element.

      Now, for something (somewhat) different:

So, Brain Trust, I see that Amazon also
      has many types of DDR3 DIMM's on-offer.

      Which particular type(s) are suitable
for those popular i5-based Dell refurb's
      we all "know & love"?

      (I think I see 2 empty DIMM slots, now;
we have 4 GB in it, ATM.)

Of course, having paid $99 for the box
we'd prefer the Lowest Possible Cost DIMMs,
that still work well in our Dell SFF box.

(Free ver. of) Grammarly seems to have erred:

      "…DIMMs,
      that still work well…"

      (It stubbornly insisted,
      that we use "works" but
      only in the complete
      para, above, Not here,
      in excerpt.)

BTW, Amazon doesn't "Refurbish" Dell boxes,
they "Renew" them, @ prices way too
close to Au$ 1,000; 'beggars belief!

In fairness, some have 16 GB RAM (others
      8 gb), & SSD storage.

      • Basically, most DDR3 will work in any DDR3 based system. Get a pair of the same type - either 2x 4GB (or 2x 8GB) DDR3-1666 or DDR3-1333 or even DDR3-1800 if you can find them. Remove the 2x 2GB and throw in the better stuff.
Specifically, a good option is to look at your motherboard's model (you can use CPU-Z to obtain this) and search for the manufacturer's list of qualified RAM.
Then, go with the RAM sticks that are confirmed as OK.

Refurbishing a PC = cleaning it from dust and crap and making sure it works.
That's really all they're doing. Most of the time you're better off going for a lower spec storage/memory option and upgrade them yourself.
Most drives are rated to a 5 year life span, anything further and you're on borrowed time anyway. May as well get your own SSD and RAM and then you know you're set, provided the motherboard, CPU, graphics. and power supply are all good.

  • Hi noob here ,how do i know my computer can house this?
Also is this a good deal someone advise plz

    • check your motherboard's ram supplier list.

    • Deal depends on what you need.
Do you NEED 32gb of ram RIGHT NOW?
      If you have 16gb, no.
If you have 8 - 16 will do.
If you're a workstation user crunching huge datasets that need lots of ram, then yes.

I feel like now is a really bad time to buy ram. Unless you need it, wait to the economies pick up again.

I bought 16gb of ddr4 3200mhz c16 Corsair ram for $118 delivered about 3 weeks ago. That same ram now is about $170

    Btw this ram is cheaper

    • good vote

    • Because of the recent AUD exchange rate's plunge.
Let's wait and see how the trend goes…

    • I got the same thing too just before all this craziness happening. Was able to build a new Ryzen machine from a Coffee Lake system. Crazy how the prices moved these past few weeks.

    • Hi,

In Umart there is also a promotion for 32gb RGB 3200mhz CL16 for $259 https://www.umart.com.au/goods.php?id=53546

It's cheaper as Umart offer store pick up.

      Thanks.
