Where can I buy a digital thermometer?

My in-ear thermometer has stopped working, so I’m trying to find a new one.

As my kids are old enough now to understand the purpose of temperature taking, I don’t need the ear- or forehead-type, but the regular cheap digital probe ones would be fine.

But where can I get them reasonably quickly?

All local shops are sold out, Amazon gives April 28 delivery date, and while many eBay sellers claim to have stock in “Sydney” and 2 day delivery, every single one of them is “Based in China, happyxu36 has been…..”

Any ideas?

Have you check out Costco eBay?

    • Costco has an ebay account in Australia?

      I cannot find it.

      What is the link?

      Thanks.

      • I have a feeling he meant Costco OR eBay

  • You can try your luck with the china based ones.

Many of them are indeed getting shipped from Australia, it's called dropshipping (partnering with a supplier or logistics provider to warehouse the digital thermometer in Australia)

    • According to recent reports, China actually stripped Australia of thousands of thermometers over January & February and sent them back to China, so good luck trying to get one anywhere at the moment.

I've heard from people that some are getting things such as face masks, hand sanitiser, etc. sent from China to Australia so it is working both ways.

Also, I recently got a thermometer from ebay so I think it is fine.

    • Lol everyone temporarily unavailable or out of stock, even the $100 ones.

You and about 10m other australians right now, along with 500m global people…… All wanting to check their temps

    • But surely not all 10m Australians had their thermometer suddenly cark it?

      • Huh? yes yours died. Ok, but its more about the sheer number of people buying things to check their temp. Just like you who don't have a fever, but just like you who wants one just in case and to check their temps, so does everyone else in Australia right now.

When 10M+ people go buy a product, they strip the shelves of them as you have found out.

  • Harvey Norman $12 Beurer thermometer (usually kept near checkout), in store only (couldnt find it on their website.)

  • Ahh, it's been ages since I had a cheap digital probe….

How much do you normally pay for your digital probes? How many digits at a time?

  • Sold out or unavailable online.

    Try an independent pharmacy.

  • This could work? It might take a longer time to get a reading though, due to the greater amount of metal in the probe. Spend an extra 5c and get free delivery.

One of these should work too, you just have to wrap the probe in cling wrap or a similar sleeve as they're harder to clean.

  • any chemist

  • Search ovulation thermometer or basal thermometer. The title scares people away. No difference to a regular thermometer, just means it goes to 2 decimal places

  • If you haven’t tried Woolworths already, we got this one last week and it’s simple but works fine
