Naked ADSL Vs Mobile Broadband for Home

We've just moved into a new house and are renting. The property manager was fed wrong information and said the property was NBN ready. However the address is not registered by NBN and they will not put in an application saying it's my problem. I can't do it myself because I need builder plans and regardless NBN told me it's a 4 month wait.

So I'm currently looking at Naked ADSL Internode or Mobile Broadband, probably Optus 500GB. I tired searching put could not find a comparison between these to, but can anyone suggest which would be a better and more reliable option for streaming Netflix etc?

Hi there, been through the exact same issue myself as NBN is now a 2 month wait for me!

Originally had naked ADSL but the download speeds were just too slow, if I had any update for a game or software it was painfully slow. Also if I was watching youtube/netflix and then my partner was on the internet, things would buffer and lose quality. I then switched to mobile broadband 500gb which is giving me roughly 5 times faster internet speed. It's a decent service as I wait for NBN, great download and upload speeds with no issue with multiple people on the wifi. The only disadvantage of mobile data for me is that it has slightly higher ping than adsl, but that could just be where I live.

So I'd recommend the home mobile data

I always find it odd, I had naked adsl and I used to get approx 18mbps, which isn't bad when it should be around 24mbps but a lot of people have told me they get much slower speed though, so I assume it depends how close you are to the exchange?

In saying that, I get about 28mbps now on Optus running on the vivid modem I have (I think one of their frequency is locked or something which slows it down?) but number wise its much faster.

Issue is its 500gb, while for same price you'd probably be on unlimited on adsl, I also find Optus seems to over count useage, but I believe that for every optus thing I've ever used, if I compare with telstra or others.

Looks to work well for netflix for me, though I think its kicked up the quality of Netflix and youtube which may be why I'm seeing higher usage.

Only worry I have is that with everyone on the network due to the virus coming in, it may slow down or die during peak times.

  • NBN isn't that great…I still get super slow speeds sometimes

  • I use one of these…I connect 5 devices to it and I have no problem streaming netflix…it all depends on your signal strength in your area…but it is excellent for me in a country area NSW

Also, when NBN fails (for others) I am still connected :)
I can also take it anywhere I go…love it!
