[PS4] Control Standard Edition $33.98 @ PlayStation Store

800

An excellent (and probably best-ever) price for a critically-acclaimed game. This is one of my first deal posts, so apologies in advance if I’ve botched something.

Nice find OP, any chance it will reach this price for a disc version?

    • +1

Cheers! 🍻 No idea if the disc version will drop any time soon - it’s been subject to only moderate discounting thus far. I suspect the next big discount for a physical copy will come if they release a GOTY-style compilation of the Standard Edition and the Season Pass (2 Expansion packs) content. But considering the first Expansion pack is coming out tomorrow, that might be a while off…

IMO: Great visuals. Overrated gameplay & story.

what is overrated about the gameplay? I never finished the story so I can't comment on that but I felt like the gameplay itself was very solid and once you're a decent amount through, the amount of stuff you can do is awesome. The only negative I could say is that the upgrades for the weapons are kind of shit.

  • The coolness of pick up stuff to smash goes as it becomes repetitive.

Same with Max Payne, I stopped using the bullet time to just get thru the game

    • Agreed.
The game probably has a length of 5 hours when you remove the backtracking and repeatedly killing the same enemies in the same rooms.

      • I spent countless hours killing the same enemies on Nioh and I thoroughly enjoyed it. also got a couple of new controllers for obvious reason.

        • Yes but killing the same enemies in Nioh is to build your character’s traits and greatly assists in progressing in the game.

In Control they just feel forced in to extend play time

Saw a notification thinking this was for a PS4 Controller.

    • Sorry for the confusion - I’ve removed the “Control” tag.

If a critic acclaims something, is he still a critic? 🤔

I don't want to get roasted, but I loved this game.
    Thanks for sharing.

How dare you have an opinion different to mine, you are clearly wrong. So I must now attack you on a personal level. :p

Yeah. I find that a bit on here sometimes reading comments. Humans are weird.

Well worth $34 and two of your indoor days. Get it.

  • Been wanting this on Xbox. Hopefully Microsoft price match it.

  • Also on PSNow too.

    • Which isn't available here.

      • Wow you're right. I swear I thought I saw an ad for it.

        • There was random ad for it that showed up for a couple of days in the PS store app. It went to a broken link.

No official announcement yet, but it might have meant something (or was just a mistake).

      • It's easy to workaround with a US PSN account + US gift cards.

Obviously the value isn't that great due to bad exchange rate. ~$50 for a 3 month subscription.

Cool. I really enjoyed the characters and the story of the main game. And those visuals, just wow.

The Foundation DLC story is out now, so I'm keen to revisit Control.

  • Any deals on the PC version? Looking forward to the big DLSS update!

You could post on r/SteamGameSwap and ask for a control (it also came with Wolfenstein Young Blood, it was an nvidia promo) trade - this is where I purchased my copy when it released for around AU$30.

      • Thanks for the tip! Will try that over the weekend. Cheers mate.

        • Just make sure you do your due diligence as there are some bad eggs around there. The mods have done a great job providing resources to make sure trades are legit and the people are legit so do make sure you read their tips.

Fantastic game, great price. Get it!

Thanks. Have been looking for a different game to play over the next week while waiting for RE3 remake.

Great game. Remedy's world-building, plot and characters are usually exceptional and this is no exception. Stylistically it looks amazing too.

Comments on gameplay are valid, but I think it arises from specc'ing oneself too deeply into a particular play style. Enemy and encounter variety is a bit lacking also.

I was looking for a deal on this. Its very hard to search this game.

This has one of the all-time best designed levels in a videogame. Worth it for that alone imo.

Just got this game, thanks for the rec. Very, very trippy - getting massive SCP and Twin Peaks vibes. Good so far.
