Android TV Boxes

An ageing friend wants to site a TV in his sunroom, where an aerial connection is impractical or would be expensive. He is already accustomed to watching Youtube, iView, Netflix through a Chromecast and phone apps. But he also likes watching free to air tv. I believe his reception location is marginal, well away from a big city. He has unlimited NBN to the node.

How would an android tv box suit his needs? Would it mean he could do all this through the one remote?

Would it be a cheaper and potentially better option than getting an Android TV?

    Vodafone TV - $72.

Has a tuner and also all the apps he is used to.
Worse case he can tune the TV Channels to use the internet rather than aerial. Just follow this guide

    • Can this record live TV?

  • Rumor has it that the next generation Chromecast Ultra might be the Android you are looking for

    • This looks just the thing. The release date is unknowable, which is frustrating.

  • Hi, I have mi boxes around the house . I love them, I can watch tea tv, foreign channels (using VPN or smartdns), Netflix ultra HD’ mirror Foxtel. I think the Vodafone box is now a better option and it’s so cheap. I would definitely go for one, it gives you more flexibility. One of my tvs is a smart tv (Hisense), but i still use a xiaomi with it .
