I normally drink Woolies’ lightly sparkling mineral water and think it’s time to go the sustainable way and start making my own. Any recommendations on what to get? The less space it takes up, the better. I don’t mind the look of the Spirit (in white) and Kogan sells it for $89 + delivery. Other stores have it for $110 with 3 instead of 1 bottle. What would you recommend getting?
Sodastream - What Should I Buy?
Comments
You won’t be making your own mineral water. Soda water
I’d just buy the cheapest one, you can buy the bottles separate pretty easy.Sparkling water from the minerals of Water NSW.
We bought one second hand from Facebook marketplace. It was much cheaper than new and came with an extra bottle. I think lots of people buy them and don't use them so much so they are often for sale pretty cheap.

The bottles expire pretty regularly so keep an eye on the expiry dates.
I've had a soda stream for about 10-15 years, yes the bottles "expire" but if they are in good condition they are fine. I don't think we've got a bottle that's actually in date at the moment. Obviously don't use them if they are cracked or damaged.
For cheap extra bottles, Aldi have had them in their special buys at 2 for $10 a few times so keep your eye out!
The title is wrong it should be - "Should I buy a Sodastream or wait for COVID-19 to be over"
I got a Sodastream before this hit. Mainly to avoid trying to get rid of a bunch of plastic with buying bottled fizzy mineral water.
Merged from Looking at Getting a Sodastream
As title suggests I looking at getting myself a Sodastream. Have looked on a few sites but I'm keen to tap into the wonderful resource that is OZBARGAIN. I'm looking at making about 1 litre a day and am looking at getting out of it as cheaply as possible. I've read reviews that the cheapest one is quite average and am wondering if I need to go one model up. Also I've read that the bottles aren't dishwasher safe. Are there dishwasher safe ones out there?
I've been looking at this one and it seems the cheapest but as I have said before wary that it might be a bit rubbish and I might need to upgrade.

Please tell me your thoughts and if you have seen them cheaper & if you know of bottles that are dishwasher safe. Thanks in advance.
If you are a Costco member you can get them at a reasonable price, the cylinders as well. They really don’t need to be washed in a dishwasher. Hand wash them then leave them to dry.
There is a converter that allows you to use bigger gas cylinders but that might not be needed for 1 litre per day. I like mine, it is good to have access to fizzy water, when you want it, without all the plastic bottle wastage.
Bottles (because of their shape) will not be cleaned well in the dishwasher whether they are safe to go in there or not (the dishwasher spray can not get into the bottles).
They are not difficult to wash by hand, so its not really an issue.Just don't drink straight from them. If you only pour into another cup then they barely need cleaning and the occasional soak.
Yup, that is what we do.
We use filtered water, put it into the bottles and leave them to chill in the fridge. When we are ready to use them we pump the gas in, reseal, invert the bottles to mix all gas in, pour into glasses then rinse out the bottle and leave to dry. Refill with water and put in the fridge. Quite, literally, rinse and repeat.
The wife has been sorta hinting about one for quite some time now. I didn't realise that different models aren't just cosmetically different. If you don't mind sharing, what would be the sort of thing that would make the cheapest ones just "average?"
I ended up getting this one https://www.bigw.com.au/product/sodastream-spirit-onetouch-s…
