[VIC] Double The Value Gift Vouchers @ Lee Ho Fook Restaurant, Melbourne

160

****************UPDATE 23-3-20 ****************

Lee Ho Fook has just advised me that they are now able to sell alcohol with the take away meals (to persons over 18). So you can order your food and a beer or whatever other drink from their menu you would like with your takeaway. They also advise for those in the know they are offering the sauce that goes with the crispy eggplant (no eggplant as it does not travel well) which is said to go really well with chicken nuggets!!! So order the sauce and on the way home pick up a 12 pack of Mc Donald’s nuggets and you’ll understand why people rave about this eggplant dish. They also advised that the vouchers will be honored for three years from the date of purchase however the dollar for dollar offer on the voucher will only last till 30 June 2020. Eg you buy $50 voucher, you will receive $100 of value to 30/6/20 however if you use it after 30/6/20 it will give you $50 value. Please support these guys!

For those in Victoria or travelling to Victoria (maybe not right now) here is an amazing deal from a top notch restaurant. Buy a gift voucher and receive double the value.

Lee Ho Fook, an east meets west style restaurant needs your help and they will give back to you in return.

They have had to drop all of their casual staff to stay alive and the restaurant industry is doing it tough.

They have on offer a dollar for dollar pledge with their gift vouchers.

All you need to do is buy a gift voucher of $50, $100, $200 or $300 and the value is doubled to $100, $200, $400 or $600!!

Vouchers are valid to 30 June 2021 when hopefully all this virus madness will end.

The voucher can be used for in restaurant dining now or sometime in the future.

Some of the amazing dishes at this venue include

  • crispy eggplant (you will end up ordering this twice once you have tried it!!)
  • goolwa pippies in xo sauce
  • cone bay barramundi

Lots to try and by using the voucher all dishes become half price!!

Support this iconic Melbourne restaurant and buy a voucher!

When/if they go bust it will be worthless.

    • Not if you and everyone else chips in and purchases a voucher! :)

      • Do they need to provide 3 years validity for a gift voucher?

        • I had a look at the consumer vic site and where it is a genuine discount then it does not have to be three years.

          https://consumerlaw.gov.au/new-gift-card-laws

          Specifically

The three year requirement does not apply to gift cards that are…

…sold for a particular good or service at a genuine discount (e.g. $50 card for salon service valued at $100)…

        • I have an update on this for you as per the main description: they will honor the voucher for three years however the double value only lasts till 30/6/20. So if you use it on or before 30/6 you will be able to spend $100 for a $50 voucher. If you use it after 30/6/20 you can still receive $50 worth of food. They also extended the offer to include alcohol from the takeaway menu as they recently received approval for this. So no need to rush off to Dan Murphy!

Actually a really good price for takeaway given a normal roast duck at your local Chinese restaurant is normally $30ish.

With the voucher you can get a whole duck for $24.

  • Is the restaurant open now? When will it close?

    • Yes it is open now. They started offering takeaway as well so that will keep them afloat whilst the virus runs its course.

  • It says the voucher is:

"valid to all purchases in Good Luck, grab and go, takeaway and at Lee Ho Fook"

Does anyone know what this means?

    • Ho means good in Chinese and Fook = fortune or luck.

      • Sorry, i was trying to undersrand where Good Luck was. And, what was considered grab and go. But i've figured out the Good Luck is their bar that's connected to the restaurant. Not sure what grab and go is though

  • I grabbed takeaway tonight. I thought the quality was really good. Mapo Tofu, honey chilli chicken, and sweet and sour pork were all great. Only let down was the duck, but that was probably more to do with my expectations of it being more like traditional Chinese roast duck. Not bad by all means. Just not for me.
Although I didn't dine in, i felt they were very friendly.
Also, you can't order takeaway from the Autumn 2020 menu, but I'm thinking I'll get another voucher to dine in sometime down the track so I can try the pippies and the peking wagyu.
Thumbs up from me. Thanks OP

    • Do you have to use up the entire value of the voucher in a transaction? Would be keen to do takeaway but having to order $100 worth in a single order might be a tad bit too much.

      • +1

Yes. I asked them that question and there is no credit on any balance.

As the takeaway can be refrigerated you could buy several dishes and store them in the fridge so you could have dinner sorted for a few days! No need to cook or wonder what to have each night. Or share some with your neighbours. You order a few and they order a few and split the cost.

        • Thanks, might still buy one for future dine in opportunities given it's valid till next year!

          • @Craze: Please see update. They will honor it to 3 years from purchase date however the bonus of dollar for dollar is only to 30/6/20. After that it reverts to its face value. They also received a licence now to sell alcohol with the food and you can buy food and alcohol with the voucher. (Assuming the person is over 18).

Yep, $100 is a bit much to spend all in one go for dinner especially for a couple. I was disappointed by that initially, but not anymore. I agree with ibuy. Buy extra and refrigerate. Things that I've kept in the fridge for today's meals: fried rice, chicken and corn soup, mapo tofu. All microwaved well with little reduction in quality. I wouldn't want to microwave the duck. In fact, i reckon you could even freeze the fried rice and soup if you wanted to. I do that when I cook these myself. So, the $100 spend is in no way a deal breaker for me. My $50 spend will get me very close to being fed over 3 meals. Excellent value IMHO
