Tasmania travel, insurance or refund?

-My partner and i have a 10 day trip booked in May to Tasmania.

-We can get a refund on our Qantas tickets.

-We have an Apollo camper booked. I emailed Apollo on the cancellation policy, they said they will take half the money for cancellation.

-This morning, Tasmania has declared that any non essential traveler will be quarantined for 14 days on arrival.

-Are there any new grounds to get a full refund on the camper due to this? Or will i have to pursue the difference through travel insurance?

    I would still go, it's not until May and things may not be a restricted by then.

    I've got a trip booked to TAS in June for a week. We are putting off making any calls (booking and cancelling things) on it until closer.

    Maybe Apollo aren't giving full refund as it is still a few months out and this new TAS enforcement may be over by then.

    • Yeah, I guess the problem is if you cancel last minute does that effect any insurance claim. Might just leave the options open for now. Qantas haven't really notified a timeframe in which you have to cancel to get a full refund.

  • In my experience travel insurance companies don't cover anything. They always have a clause in their 50 page document that excludes them for every possible scenario. Maybe I'm just salty about how my travel insurance denied my claims when Thomas Cook went under.

    Hopefully you get some money back either way.

    • Yup, I agree, insurance usually do everything in their power to get out of it.

      Still not much point going to Tasmania if it's still in quarantine, they've announced big fines for anyone breaching quarantine.

  • Bumping this with updates;

    Apollo have offered to credit the full amount provided we book new dates within a year.

    I gave them new dates and they can't provide a vehicle to the same value on new dates, only one that costs another $300. If they can't supply the service aren't I entitled to a refund?
