Dell Optiplex 9020m DP to HDMI Compatibility

Does using a DP->HDMI adapter have 100% compatibility or are there known problems hooking up a TV?

The i5-4590T has integrated graphics with HDMI capability. How do I physically change the DP port to HDMI so that I don't need to use a DP->HDMI adapter?

  • You can't physically remove a DP port and replace it with a HDMI. You just need the right cable and it should work fine.

  • Is your TV 4k?

If so, there are still quite a few DP to HDMI cables out there that can't handle 4k.

I got these from amazon a few months ago. The price was right & I can't fault them.

  • I have issues with my dp->hdmi converter stuffing up hdmi-cec / ARC on my receiver. Basically prevents it from working all together. It is just on my server, so I only plug it in when there is a fault and remote desktop or team viewer aren't working.

  • PC is required to stream BBC, ITV, Netflix, Prime, etc., using Chrome. I find using Chrome and bookmarks the easy way to stream and the PQ is more than adequate for me. It's not a 4k TV and I'm quite happy with 1080P, based on that I'll try the DP->HDMI cable for video, and use a USB DAC for audio to the soundbar. Happy with 1080P and stereo - I must be getting on.:) Thanks for the replies, shout-out to Spackbace for the Dell research.

    • Why a USB DAC? DP/HDMI carries audio.

      • When listening to radio via Chrome I turn off the TV as I have a soundbar.
