Buying a 2014 IS250 F Sport. Problems?

Looking at the 3rd gen shape that came out mid 2013 onwards.

Anything in particular that I should be worried about when looking for one. Budget is around 25k. Most of the km are around 120k.

Reason for not going for an IS350 is purely because of the insurance. Have done quotes for an IS350 and they all came around 3.5k whereas I can get premium for less than 2k for an IS250.

I'm 27 but live in a high risk suburb of Sydney which is why the premium is ridiculously high.

  • just because your budget is $25k, probably should be asking yourself IF you can afford it and the "high risk suburb" would lead me to think it's not the best idea

    • Budget of 25k because I'm not keen on spending more than that, not that I have problems with affordability. High risk Sydney suburb, almost everything is stupidly high to insure here.

      • Drop the F Sport badge & maybe your insurance quote would go down?

  • It’s a flash Camry. What could go wrong?

Check out some dedicated Lexus forums.

    • More like a Corolla in size. Rear wheel drive though.

It’s essentially built by Toyota with even greater attention to quality.

Sorry for off-topic, but 250 F Sport is pointless. Strange combination of firm suspension and gutless engine - this is not something that Lexus does the best.

edit: Try VW Golf, you will be impressed. For the same price you'll get a near new car with 5y warranty that drives exceptionally well and with vastly superior safety features.

    • Wanted the reliability but with some luxury. Also wife not keen on Golf shape. It's predominantly the latter reason if I'm being serious.

  • Both premiums are high. I would go on to the insurance companies online site and try a few different policy options to get it down.

  • It is a dolled up Camry, as long as it's been reasonably well looked after it shouldn't throw up too many issues.

    Buy it and enjoy it.

Literally nothing related to a Camry. Platform, engine and factory are all different. Throw in that Camry of 2013 are Aus makes it even more different.

        No need to get camgry

        • I up voted but I think it would be better without the bold.

  • Why F Sport? Any differences in engine or performance?

    • Mostly styling and maybe a firmer suspension.

      • I found the usual IS to be stylish enough (if not too much :D) and won't pursue it unless I have the extra money to burn.

Personally, I would push for the 350.

The 250 has direct injection only and tends to have carbon build up like most modern cars, whereas the 350 has dual port so it is a lot less likely to have that problem. The 350 also makes a lot more power for barely any extra fuel.

Other than that (which really isn't that big of an issue), they're very solid cars

  • Buy a shittier car and move to a nicer part of Sydney? ;)
