Get one of those lenovo deals, like this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/521237

  • Personally I reckon buying an used Macbook Pro. Got mine a year ago from eBay, $800 for MB pro 2013, decent looking,i5, 8gb RAM, built in graphic card and most importantly nice battery (just about 150 charging cycles). I’m studying architecture and that’s enough for me as a portable machine and I know it will last long. Did replace the thermal paste. Just keep an eye on facebook marketplace, gumtree as good deals won’t stay long, also stay away from seller selling refurbs.

You can purchase a brand new laptop with the same specs for $200-100 cheaper. The lenovo deal mentioned above is a good example.

      • Its expired any similar ?

  • Acer, as they have a capped price on Screen repairs.
A HP we bought last year for $999, would cost $700 to repair.
I ended up buying a non-touch screen for $180 on ebay, that was fairly easy to replace. I miss the touch screen and pen though. :(

  • I’d say an Apple MacBook, but their response to the butterfly keyboard debacle has been nothing short of a disgrace.

That I’d be suggesting you buy an old MacBook because the new ones have shit keyboards, in my mind, really tells the story of how Apple have approached their innovation of their laptops, as well as their attitude towards their customers.

So, I’d suggest a Microsoft Surface. I think they’re an absolutely great idea, of combining a Tablet, and a computer.

Rant about my Apple MacBook: I’ve got a 2017 Apple MacBook Pro, and I have to use a silicon keyboard cover because shit gets stuck under the keys and results in a dud key that won’t register (which never, ever affected both the Mid-2010 White Unibody MacBooks I’ve still got). I even took it into the Apple store in Rundle Mall, to be told rudely, by a young lady whom either couldn’t care less about her job, or believed I really wasn’t important enough as a customer (despite the machine costing $1200), that Apple would only ever be replacing the keyboards, with the same shitty keyboards, and in essence they didn’t give a flying rats arse that I had a computer that failed twice during online Uni exams.

Sigh; Sorry, rant over. Anyway, I won’t be suggesting another Apple MacBook again until they get their shit together. I’d go for something like the Lenovo that Ozhunter suggested, or something like a Surface because I think they’re a very good design.

Go for the one of the Lenovo deals (e495 or similar). Good value for money and have had no hardware issues. Have bought some for work, a friend bought one on my recommendation then I just ended up buying one (after issue with my 2012 MacBook). I was lucky and got a local stock model - I rang them at 12 midday and the laptop was at work (regional nsw, sent from Sydney) before I got back from Sydney myself the following day.

does anyone know when the g14 Asus is coming to Australia?

It looks like the Asus r4000 laptops are coming on the 16th of April. There was an international listing showing that. Also, Centrecom accidentally listed the TUF A15 with r4000. That was coming at that time as well.(They removed it though)

Reviews should be earlier as there's an Aussie reviewer who already has one (Jarrod's tech)
