Need Advice Selling on eBay

Hi all, i have recently put up a few small value items, less than 10qty, to sell on eBay. So yesterday Saturday i received email saying i have been paid for 2qty+postage which is <$20 with Queensland address provided. I am sending it from WA. Money received in PayPal. I did a check on Google map and found that it was a big block of land which is now developed and it's now a small street with many houses, so i believe if i send it there it won't go anywhere n just get lost.

I have a feeling the buyer is trying to scam me of <$20 which seems not worth the effort since the address is not a house or commercial property. I could only think that he would claim from PayPal/eBay for non delivery if he doesn't receive it even though i will send it to the address he provided. I have sent him 2 messages so far but no response yet. What should i look out for and what can i do in this case? I was planning to post it tmr Monday when post office is open. I am not sending it via tracking as mentioned in my ad, just normal postage as just not worth it for small value items.
Any advice appreciated.

Why can't the address be for one of the "many houses"?

trying to scam me of <$20

If you're that paranoid, why even bother trying to sell stuff on eBay? Other than immediate cash, everything carries a risk.

    Need Advice

    Thanks for excellent grammar

and it's now a small street with many houses

Buyer probably lives in one of said houses

    • Thanks for confirming my grammar :). the st name he gave was a main rd n Google map is just pointing to the middle of the small st which is now fern st, not deception bay rd.

The buyer has purchased your product and you have to send it and that is correct if buyer claims not received without tracking you have no option but to compensate . If you so concern you should have sold items via tracking only ( I know for small items it not worth the extra postage costs). The risk should have been evaluated prior to your listing .

You’re overthinking it. Just send it to the Paypal registered address

  • or just question the buyer..

    • I did send 2 messages, no response yet.

  • Go to the buyers feedback. Have they sold and bought anything. Is their rating 100%. Only send to paypal address. Confirm with buyer if correct. If your worried about scam you will need at a min to do tracking as proof it arrived at address. Sign up & pay for nearmaps and check the address that way as their sat maps are more up to date.

Step 1 - take off your tin foil hat
Step 2 - send it to the buyer (Google maps shows my house as a large patch of dirt, even though it's been built for 3 years)
    Step 3 - profit

  • I had the same thing happen to me….buyer bought something off me, gave me the postal address to which I googled up (to make sure it was a real address and not a fake) which turned out to be a place out in the middle of nowhere, like no roads, houses or any buildings at all; then saw that the area was last updated 2015, so maybe there is now a road and a house or building in 2020. Sent it away anyways, hoping nothing bad will happen and that the maps truly outdated and probably now does have someone living there, and well….a month later so far no complaints….no chargebacks at least anyways….

I also sent mine untracked too…..so if they wanted to file a no show complaint and a refund, they'd have done within the week I sent it on….and gave me negative feedback too to boot…but they haven't yet….so I guess I'm safe…?

    • thanks, i will send it tmr and take a photo of envelope with stamps.

      • It's $20 mate, you are too paranoid.

  • As long as you can prove you sent it, won't PayPal rule in your favour?

    • Lol no. However if you push it with financial ombudsman you will get money back eventually.

      • What if you film yourself posting it.

        • It's $20, honestly that is a lot of effort. PayPal are shocking, the almost always side with the buyer, unless you take them to the ombudsmen, which is always fun.

  • Press the history button in google earth and you might be able to get a more recent but lower resolution satellite image

  • The best advice is to not sell.on eBay.

In your situation as long as Australia Post said it is delivered. eBay will slide with you.

  • If there's tracking number, you will have no risk if post office scan it on delivery.
So if you send it as a parcel, there will be always a tracking number on it free of extra charge.
If you send it as a letter, put your item in some cardboard to make it like a document, then try auspost tracking envelope, small one, 125g, 5mm in thick, below $3.00. big one 20mm thick, 500g, around $5.50.
At last, there always be somewhat risk selling online. If everything is right, the buyer can still claim your money by returning a rubbish. So consider and include this loss in your selling price.

  • I use eBay shipping labels, you can print the Australia post shipping label via eBay then they have a record of where you sent it (which will match the buyers address because it’s all automatic)

You can get a plain satchel from Australia post (not the prepaid ones) and sticky tape the label on there and send.
I use eBay satchels which you can buy online.

I’ve posted hundreds of items of the last 12 months using this method and never had any problems. I always read the address when I create the shipping label and sometimes it instructs me to correct something, as sometimes people put both a PO Box and street address in the one address line, or sometimes they put the suburb in the second address line. You can ignore this option and just create the label as is which I always do. It’s up to the buyer to make sure their details are correct and up to date.

If you send it in a prepaid satchel at the post office, or any method they all now come with tracking, you will receive a lodgment receipt, but of course you have no evidence of where the parcel was addressed to.

I would message the buyer to just double check their details are up to date, and just send it, I would also get yourself some eBay satchels and use eBay shipping labels going forward. It makes liege so much easier and you have the added piece of mind.

  • If you have been paid… if PayPal states you have been paid, then send off item to address provided.

    End of issue

  • Ship it to the address provided and make sure you have a tracking number.
You should not have a problem
