  • I know this is a little off topic, but do you guys @ Hot think you will stock the new range of Panasonic PT-AE7000 and Epson Home Cinema 3100 projectors that are being released now??
    Thanks!

    • Hi Maz78, we should be stocking new home cinema projectors as they're released here. :)

  • +1

"Check out the Epson TW3200 selling for Australia's best price - and it also comes with free shipping for a limited time!"
    your price:1638.23
the cable connection: 1639… lets start a price war!
    your 77 cents cheaper… congrats!
nice free shipping on both deals too…
the one from TCC comes with a free blu ray player… (by redemption, so i assume yours would too?)

decent price on the Panasonic but definatly not a great projector!
    500:1 Contrast

    • Hi wisc, thanks for the praise! :) I'm not sure if I've made a mistake, but I'm getting a quote of $1649 from The Cable Connection - which would mean our Epson TW3200 is a slightly better deal. ;) You're also 100% correct that purchases from hot.com.au are eligible for the Free Blu-Ray offer from Epson Australia via redemption.

And just quickly, the Panasonic PT-LB1 is a data projector which is why the contrast ratio (500:1) is much lower than a (more expensive) home cinema projector designed for a dark room. If there is light in the room, which is common for data projector usage, the contrast ratio becomes fairly irrelevant anyway.

      • ahh yep, sorry my bad, 10 bux cheaper… (about 0.75%)

though the upgraded TW3600 around the same price… (about a hundred bux more) it has double the contrast ratio…

  • Hi:
Is the Panasonic PT-LB1EA Projector suitable for a small home cinema Eg 120" inch - 150" inch screen size ?.

I will be using it mainly for dvd rips xvids tv shows etc is it suitable for that as it says data projector ?.

And does the room need to be totaly dark to view movies well?

Hopefully this can be used as a budget home cinema sub $500 projector as its either this or an ebay cheapy " usually an 800x600 " or none.

    Thanks in advance

    • Hi Twodogs, this projector is ideal for a budget home cinema!

The projector can definitely display a 150" (3.81m) image - the brochure says it can even go double that! You'll probably want to use the VGA, S-Video or composite connections to connect to a computer or media player to view your files, as the projector won't play them on its own. Our sister website has a brief PT-LB1 review with photos if you'd like to have a look. And while the room doesn't have to be totally dark to view movies (as you can see from those photos), the picture quality generally improves the darker it is.

      • I have an Epson X5 XGA projector (contrast 400:1) and it does a pretty decent job as a home cinema projector. My screen runs at about 3m and I wouldn't recommend much larger than that. The pixellation is acceptable at around that size, really only noticeable with a brightly lit scene…But any larger and it would start to become noticeable no matter what the scene.

        • Thanks for that , looking forward to trying it out .

Btw scubacoles what sort of screen do you use ?

  • Awesome thank you for the reply.

Ok just ordered one , fingers crossed ;-)
