  • Any good for shucking?

    • +1

Unsure on that, it doesn't have the fastest write speeds going. But for under $65 and for it's intended use it is pretty good.

…no need for that sort of language

    • With bare bones SSDs so cheap these days, why would you bother? A 500GB M.2 or SATA SSD is about $25-35 dollars more.

It's a bit different with higher-capacity external HDDs that are commonly shucked, because they can be a $100 dollars cheaper than an equivalent bare bones HDD or sometimes even more (not to mention external OEM enclosures can sometimes house better HDDs than you could buy with that same amount of money when shopping for an internal HDD), but flash prices have been dropping tremendously and I'm assuming people shucking portable SSDs would likely try to use them as bootable OS drives, and you really don't want to be skimping out on your main system drive by purchasing what is likely a 2-3 generation old SSD with really sub-par performance compared to modern SSDs.

meh got one anyway, cant go wrong at $64, need a decent SSD for WiiU storage anyway.

Why 500 GB cost $64 and 1 TB cost $249?

    • +2

The 500 is the drive with the deal and the 1TB doesn't have it.

  • +1

I just bought the Amber 500GB for $64.43, I suspect it will either be an MSATA or 2.5" SATA SSD but either way a good price for some storage.

  • Already gone

    • Said 5 left in stock but can't add to cart.

  • …seems like amazon deals last for about 10 minutes before they expire these days :|

    • +4

everyone's shopping online these days. Tiz less contagious then going to stores. Just dont kiss the mailman goodbye
This looks like it was a price error.

      • +2

I purchased one at around $79 last week and then again today for $64. Not sure it was a price error.

  • That's a pretty portable drive

    • +3

      Pretty and portable!

      • Busted

I can't speak for this exact drive, but I've found may of these "up to 400mb/s write" drives will only do about 1gb at that speed (fills a high speed buffer) then drops to 100mb/s for sustained writing of large files. The read speeds are usually consistently high, and they offer other benefits over HDD, so still worth it in some cases.

    QLC and DRAM LESS. Yikes.

    • +3

That's nasty. From the following review https://gadgets.ndtv.com/laptops/reviews/wd-my-passport-go-s…

'we were not able to record above 312.1MBps sequential reads and 117.2MBps sequential writes, which was quite surprising. Most SSDs live up to their manufacturers' claims, and 400MBps was already below standard for this segment. Real-world performance is better reflected by random read and write speeds, and we got 52.05MBps and 6.62MBps respectively, which is also not great'

Still, for $64, reasonable as long as you know how it performs

  • +1

Price error for sure as this is priced at Officeworks for $178 so how can this be legit.

    • +2

As I said: I purchased one at around $79 last week and then again today for $64. Not sure it was a price error.

$79 one is on my desk…

    • +1

Seems to be $138 at officeworks now, which is still terrible pricing considering how poorly this thing performs for a SSD

    • Price error for sure

No, Amazon does some strange things with pricing sometimes - there can be "wild" fluctuations. I've bought a few camera lenses from them recently that were down to less than 50% of the normal price, something completely unheard of for this level of equipment.
