Pram Confusion - SilverCross Coast Vs UppaBaby Cruz

Hi All,

We have going to have our first child and were looking to purchase a new pram and really confused with Silver cross Coast and Uppababy Cruz. We dont need a pram which is compatible with 2 seats a time and would be ok with standard pram along with Bassinet.

Any feedback/ recommendations/ and experience from personal usage is appreciated :)

P.S Wife doesn't want a second hand pram so has to be a NEW !

Update

Thanks everyone .. We ended up buying Uppababy.. It was much more functional and easier to carry/ lift for my wife .. Weight and convinience was the deciding factor :)

  • Cruz is way cheaper? Are you sure you're comparing similar prams? I would assume (based on price) you should be comparing the Coast to the Vista?

When we were getting our first pram 4 years ago, the salesperson's recommendation was the Vista, we went with the Cybex Priam…kind of regretted it.

I know the feeling, how annoying! We did sell the Priam and get a second hand double pram for the second kid though…things change when you don't have money! :p

Yes Cruz is cheaper as advertised but we need to add the bassinet (Approx $300) which is already included in coast.. When bassinet is added the difference is about $200. Yes they may not be exactly similar but some reason i prefer coast and my wife prefers Cruz (+Bassinet).. Difference between Cruz and Vista is that Vista can be converted into a double pram by purchasing additional seat.. At this stage we are not keen on double pram and dont want to spend more !

We have last year's cruz, it's been great. The newest one that just came out is heavier cause of added suspension and stuff which we didn't want, esp not the extra weight.
I vaguely recall checking out a Silver Cross but it didn't feel as solid or something.
Just go and check out both in person.

We got the cruz new, maxi cosi capsule new, adapters used, and a bassinet/carry cot used.

    • Yep, the Baby Bunting? In Alexandria even has a fake rocky terrain course you can test over

    • Silvercross Coast is very sturdy but also little heavy which i am trying to avoid .. but can be converted into a double unlike cruz

Wife doesn't want a second hand

Nothing wrong with well looked after second hand baby goods. The price difference can be astounding. Both of my kids were raised on Gumtree goods (high chairs, cots, strollers, prams, nappies etc.) They survived and we had enough money left over for a well deserved family holiday to Noosa.

    • I know and I agree… I managed to get a Boori Cot in excellent condition for $250 including changing table.. Somehow she doesnt want to budge on the pram .

BabyJogger city mini GT… best pram we ever had, had the mini GT double as well for a while.. Have 3 kids, went through a number of different brands first.

as with MS Paint above.. i get the whole first baby, want everything to be new.. but you will save a shit load by getting decent 2nd hand goods.. the kids are just going to wreck it anyway

  • Do you intend to use the pram for transport (i.e. to push around to get to places), or as something you just leave in the back of your car for when you go shopping?

If it's the latter, I would actually suggest looking at a more compact pram. They tend to be much easier to fold up and transport, not to mention much lighter. They generally aren't as good for rocky terrain or walking on the street due to their weaker build.

I was gifted a very good pram by some family after our baby was born, but we didn't end up using it at all because it was such a chore to take out of the car and put it back in, plus it took up so much space in the boot. Ended up getting a BabyJogger City Tour and we're really happy with it. Folds up nice and quickly and super compact as well.

Completely agree with wanting a new pram - it was the only thing I have demanded for bubs due at the start of June. I got an Uppababy Vista (November 2019) on sale for $1200 direct from the distributer just as the 2020 version came out. I haven't looked at the Cruz at all, but I bought it here https://coolkidz.net.au/uppababy-cruz-2018.html Unless you get an almost unused pram second hand, they are generally all pretty buggered or have little life in them, and the prices people want for them isn't much less than new. At least a new one comes with warranty.

I'm a little bit different was I wanted one that I could go to a double (as being pregnant sucks and I'd like to get two done and dusted as close together as I can get away with), we looked at pretty much everything and decided that everything in the same price range was about the same… deciding factors were price, weight and how easy it is fold!

I have the Vista and love it. The Cruz is very similar.
I found Silver Cross generally way too heavy and harder to fold. Easy of fold and weight were my top criteria.
Depends what you care most about.

    • I almost jumped on a Silver Cross that had EVERYTHING included, even the second seat and all the adapters, my best friend is 10 weeks behind me in her pregnancy so having a double would come in handy - $1500 down from a supposed $2800. So glad I didn't, further research it was a 2015 model (eek? Why hadn't it sold through? The 2019 Vista is already hard to find within weeks of the V2 coming out) and it weighed about 3.5kg more than the Vista. Most of its use will be walking to the shops, but when I do take it in the car, I've got a Prado, with drawers so a 1.2m lift with 15kg+ didn't sound like much fun! It was a really nice looking pram but glad I used my head over my heart (and hormones).

My daughter has Silver Cross for first born……spent around $1200-$1300 for it. Think she bought Henley….lovely single pram, well made, good storage. Suddenly pregnant sooner than expected and has just bought Uppabsby Vista…. double.
I work in the industry and suggest to people that you check out what's important to you…..eg hood/shade coverage. Bassinet….is it overnight sleeping approved? Storage accessibility underneath. Are you using public transport, do you walk to local shops or walk the dog….can you push it with one arm? Do you have to drive everywhere….check weight and how well it fits in your car….and do you have to empty basket underneath every time you fold it?
It's a lifestyle choice, so don't be swayed by friends too much :)

  • I’m looking for a pram. First baby on the way. It is so confusing! Now I can’t go into the shops it’s making it harder. I have a Suzuki Swift so the boot is small. I saw some of the prams weigh over 10kg. I’m looking for something light weight that won’t cost an arm and a leg and easy to fold down. Any suggestions?

    • My best friend is about 10 weeks behind me and also has a Swift, she bought this one. Not sure of pricing elsewhere, but she got hers on clearance at Baby Bunting for $900 (I think!) but it was in store and a couple of months ago!

Still weighs a bit (says 11.5kg in the specs) but comes with the bassinet and toddler seat - but her big thing was it has to fit in the Swift, everything else was going to secondary as there is no point of having a pram that doesn't fit in your car! She says it will fit and still have some room left over for shopping etc. As with all prams you have to take the bassinet off to fold it and if you take the toddler seat off when you are using that, it takes up less room overall as well. She was also considering the Bugaboo Bee or Ant, but was sold on this one when it was on clearance.

      • I’ve seen people using this one. Thank you so much for the recommendation. I’ve still got a couple of months. I’ll wait for someone to have a big sale online. At least I know now it will fit in the boot

        • Consider Uppababy Cruz ..it was on sale for $799 as the new version has just released and is priced at $1199 .. I would be ok with the older version for the price difference.
