I don't think I would go on that at the moment even if someone paid me.

      chickenpox party

Check out the cancellation or cancel administration fees.
I cancelled a cruise a couple of weeks ago and although the cruise line have me 100% refund I was slugged $300 cancel admin fee.

      • depending on the cruise line some offer the cancel fee as credit towards a future cruise. I would certainly ask them about it, RC are doing that.

    Nice. What could possibly wrong?…

  • +3

Very cheap, but for a reason. You couldn't pay me to board one of these floating incubators in the current situation.

    • +1

You couldn't pay me even before the pandemic, it's a incubator for gastro and other viruses.

  • It would be silly to go there, don't go there guys

  • +4

Only if you chuck in free toilet paper

  • +7

Use code CORONA to get a 14% off discount

    • +17

You mean an extra 14 nights free

      • +6

Use COVID-19 to get 19% off.

    • You will stay there for months.

    • Use code CORONA to get more than you bargained for!

  • +8

I only ask politely that everyone considering booking holidays on cruise ships to do some research on their impact to the environment specially around the types of fuel they use, how they dispose of their waste and the regulations around the industry

Not sure if we can link videos here but there is plenty online to get your teeth into

    • +3

This is ozb, environmental sustainably really has no place here with out buy material items now think second mentality.

      • +5

The which with the what now?

  • +9

Mare is not accepting cruise ships:
    https://www.cruisecritic.com.au/news/5097/
New Caledonia: Three New Caledonian ports — Lifou, Mare and Isle of Pines — remain closed after tribal chiefs made an unprecedented decision to bar cruise traffic.

  • I really do not want to risk myself

  • +2

    Yeah, nah

  • Corona cruise

    • Should really just rename it to that :)

  • +7

Usually I'd feel sorry about an entire global industry going bankrupt but cruise ships are horrific for the environment sooo I guess I'm ambivalent.

    • +6

Another Boomer past time bites the dust.

Don't need no Johnson and Johnson here.

  • Amazed it has 4+ votes. Talk about the definition of optimism posting this up now, even govt bodies are warning people to specifically NOT take cruises, I think the price could be much lower and still there'd be only very marginally higher demand. Funny thing is in a pandemic, people don't want to be stuck in a tightly packed tin can with loads of other people.

Australian Government advisory re cruises is here:
    https://www.smartraveller.gov.au/before-you-go/getting-aroun…

In part, it states "…to reconsider taking an overseas cruise at this time - particularly if you have underlying health concerns."

  • +2

Why do they still list islands in the itinerary which have already been closed? Isn't it deceptive?

    • +3

Yep, very deceptive IMO… The agents posting these deal here and listing closed ports in their description is just slimy!,

    • +1

Last time I checked Christmas island is still open!

      • Thats the bonus 14 night stay at the end of the cruise.

  • +1

On the other hand, a cruise to get away from everyone who has COVID-19?

    • Well, Considering they was one of the first to spread it.. I don't know.

  • +2

I'm here for the comments — not disappointed.

  • not the right time and money…

  • This will be a hard sell

  • +2

    Prefer Diamond Princess

    • +4

      You spelt Disaster Princess incorrectly…

  • +7

    Mystery Island

    Would that be Christmas Island?

  • Given that Princess just announced they are shutting shop for 60 days, completely possible that Carnival, which owns princess in their umbrella, would follow.

I would not recommend any international travel, by any means, right now, simply to avoid yourself potential logistical headaches.

  • i think this ships sailed

Travel insurance companies are no longer covering coronavirus.

    Do the Cruise Coronavirus mathematics:

    1. No Insurance

    +

    1. Coronavirus on board

    +

    1. Helicopter evacuation to intensive care of at least USD $5k/day (bed only) + medical treatment costs.

    +

    1. Quarantine and other costs

    =

    1. Potential bankruptcy.

    Enjoy your cruise …

    • Travel insurance companies are no longer covering coronavirus.

Actually they sneakily exclude pandemics or epidemics they declared this a pandemic before the WHO. I have mates who booked a cruise last year, they were told they're not covered. So if they do go on the cruise in a few weeks, they're not covered for any covid-19 related incidents. Asked if they can then cancel & get a refund. Apparently they can lodge a claim and they'll find out…about 6-8wk after the cruise departs.
Flight centre who sold the cruise & insurance said, we can reschedule for a fee, but no refunds.

You buy insurance to cover you against the unexpected.

  • Risky trip. It will be another **** Princess cruise.

  • +1

    Missed one inclusion

    Package Includes
    Coronavirus COVID-19

I had two invitations in a week from Australian Seniors for European boat cruises.I replied that I thought these invitations untimely and irresponsible, especially given the target market and politely requested a reply.None was forthcoming….should change their name to Ostrich Seniors.

  • +2

The words to “Hotel California” keep coming into my head
“You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave”.

  • +2

Because of the uncaring nature of this post in the present circumstances, I was going to cast my first neg vote on this post, but I couldn't bring myself to do it

For years, on this forum and others, I have railed against Cruse Lines' greed, causing insufficient time for proper disinfection of ships between cruises

There is no way that lines like Princess, P and O and others, with their laissez faire attitude to hygiene could forestall corona virus…. they haven't been able to do it with nora virus or gastro or a host of other maladies.

I believe that taking an overseas cruise with the situation as it stands on closures and increasing infections, is either extremely brave or extremely dumb.

At this time and although we all have right to to make an honest buck, the people who offer holidays, of all sorts, when nothing can be guaranteed, are arseholes.

    • I agree.
Bearing in mind nationwide WHS obligations, which don’t just encompass work, apply here.
Surely, this will open up for class actions when travel warnings and general population awareness of current COVID-19 abounds?

  • +3

Not cheap enough in the face of closed ports and global pandemics.

    • +1

I'm with you even the government has said no oversea's unnecessary travel and I'm sure that especially on cruise liners .

  • +2

On the flipside, we are all probably going to get Corona, and I can't think of a better situation then having it with a personalised butler service and all your meals made for you. However, be fit and healthy as a medical officer onboard is $$$. A nice upsell.

Perhaps the cruise lines need to pivot and become the Corona experience (with free $500 onboard medical credit).

  • So, how quickly are they refunding this?
