Camera under $300.00

Hey guys,

Off to europe in 2 months and looking to get myself a decent camera.

Unfortunately i have limited knowledge with cameras and am far from a professional in photography.

What would you suggest? Also taking into account that it will be quite dark and dull over there in the winter?

Happy to spend up to $300 for a decent camera.

How would this one way up? Is there any decent sites for better deals on cameras?

It's a nice camera for the price, but the photos are not the best in low light conditions. Review here. But given its size, the zoom distance is amazing though.

IMHO, the Canon IXUS 220HS is probably better in taking shots in low light conditions for the price point. Review here. Good size for traveling too. Also IMHO, it produces a more 'natural' colour than the Nikon.

Sample photos: Canon vs Nikon (at ISO 400, the Nikon is already struggling).

http://dicksmith.com.au/product/XG2415/canon-ixus220hs-digit… or cheaper if you live closer to one of these shops: http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=ixus+220HS&spos…

    • I second the Canon IXUS 220 HS - I've got one and it's great. If you're worried about dull colour, there's a "vivid colour" setting which you can use. For low light, make sure you fiddle around with the settings (ISO, etc) before you start snapping away. It's a great camera for low light pics without the blinding flash. :)

      • I have it too, you wont be dissapointed.

  • Hubby recently bought a Fujifinepix S 3400 …. retail at hardly normal is $349, but I'm sure you could probably get it down to your $300 limit somewhere without too much trouble. 1t has 14mp and 28X optical zoom, and is doing a fairly impressive job. Gets good reviews.

  • The Sony DSCTX5 is a decent camera for your take anywhere camera (water proof, good in the snows, etc), I brought it not long ago and it takes pretty good pictures especially under very low light. it was $278 when I brought it in July from Videopro, but it looks like it has been replaces with the newer DSCTX10. have fun at europe!

  • JBhifi sold me a lumix ft10 for $200 2 days ago, 3m waterproof and shock resistant
