Recommended Brands for Car Parts (Service)

Hey all,

I'm slowly starting to buy bits & pieces to service my car. I doubt I need to replace the pads, but it would be close!
I had a look online, and most of the pricing seemed around $75-100 for a front pair. Does anyone recommend any brand over another?

While we're at it, any recommendations for Oil Filters, or even Oil for a service.

Ford Focus 2.0 GDI (LW) Hatchback Petrol 125kw 2013 - My Car, but changed topic as I figured it may help others when looking to service their car.

Thanks

Bendix for pads, ryco for filters.

Source: neither have ever failed me. I drive 45000km per year and service my own cars.

Thank you, I was looking at Ryco filters but I was confused between the different types.
I bought a Ryco Air Filter for my car tho, and ended up with Repco Cabin filter!

Then you probably shouldn't be servicing your own car (or any other car for that matter)

Air filter's for the engine. Cabin filter is for your air con.

Didn't you YouTube this stuff? I did and consulted my car manual, and managed to change my own air and cabin filters. I'm also a girl …

        • I wrote it wrong, I bought 2 SEPERATE items(Just re-read it and sounds so dumb). I bought a RYCO AIR FILTER< and the REPCO BRANDED Cabin filter. I mean, I'm not an expert on cars but I'm not that dense! Haha

I was confused in-regards to the Ryco Oil Filters, that's what I was originally getting at. Sorry for the misunderstanding. :)

Ryco Filters wont do you wrong
Avoid Bendix at all costs, they are genuine trash and i work in the industry so speaking from experience
If you are buying retail you want to look for DBA branded pads and rotors as they are you best bet.

Bendix, used to be good, now dissapointing. They never caught up after asbestos was banned.

Ryco are good on most cars except Mk3 Golfs where they cause a flow restriction.

Personally I like Mahle or Mann filters.

I have cheap ($65) Wagner pads on the Octavia and they are great and seem to suit the DBA rotors. Would buy again.

Put even cheaper ($45/set) BPA on the rear of the Honda and they haven't had any complaints yet.

Whatever I put on the front is rubbish (as recommended by Brakes Direct) - can;t remember the brand but they had "trade series" in the name.

If you don't mind buying from Brakes Direct again, get QFM HPX or QFM A1RM, both really good pads made by QFM down at the Gold Coast.

        • Are QFM still in business? I thought they had closed?

          • @nafe: I had heard that too. Which is a pity, I had the QFM HPX on a previous car and they held up well to enthusiastic driving without too much squeal or dust.

Bloody hell, such good pads. Damn shame.

I used to run DBA T2 disks, and QFM A1RM, on just a normal VY V6 Commodore, and they were a really nice brake setup. Probably overkill, but I liked the brake feel.

  • Ryco oil filters are good.

Pads depends on what you need, OE spec TRW are fine (very dusty though). Ultimate cold bite stopping Ferraro DS2500.

^Didnt know DBA made pads, I knew they made rotors.

    not bad cold bite

  • Any recommendations for Oil? My car takes 5W-30
Unfortunately there isn't many good sales ATM, but one of the eBay sellers has 15% off and most the top brands come to around $35-38 for 5L

I know I've seen some low $20 prices, but who knows when we'll see another price drop like that.
