Recommendations on Budget Gaming Laptop. MSI Vs Lenovo

Hi all,

First time poster here. Hoping to get some insight into what would be a better purchase for a budget all-rounder laptop capable of gaming. I was settled on the MSI GL65 until I came across this Lenovo L340 gaming 17": https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-l-serie…

Love the fact that it's a bigger screen with decent specs however I am not 100% tech savvy in terms of processors and the difference they could potentially make. Other options were the Acer Nitro 5 and ASUS FX505. Max budget $1200. Would love to get your thoughts. Thank you

They are all pretty much the same in the price bracket you choose, base your decision on whichever gives the longest warranty then the quality of that warranty.

In my experience I've found Lenovo laptops to be more reliable than MSI. The amount of MSI laptops I've come across with difficult to access parts, or hinges failing is crazy high.

This would be my pick if you can stretch an extra 100

    • Thanks Hellfire. Narrowed it down to the FX505 vs the GL63: https://www.centrecom.com.au/msi-gl65-9sc-001au-156-fhd-core…

They are only $10 apart and are very similar specs from what I can see. Anything that sticks out that would put the ASUS ahead in your opinion? Thanks

The Asus will kill the MSI. The GPU is much better and that's the most important thing in gaming. MSI has a slight advantage in CPU but shouldn't make much impact.

        • Unfortunately missed out on the ASUS sale price as that offer was for in store only and no online stock, being a public holiday they were closed also and wouldn't honor the price the next morning. Keen to get your take on this Dell currently on sale for $1439 with the ebay discount code: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-G7-17-Laptop-9th-Intel-i5-9…

How does the RTX 2060 stack up vs the ASUS? only downside I can see is the smaller SSD.
