  • Hey OP,

Owners manual states only old iPhones work with Apple Carplay:

    Compatible iPhone models
iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5

    Is this really the case?

    • +6

No, it's not. That was just the most recent iPhone at the launch of the head unit.

      • +1

dosada is right. Apple CarPlay is part of iOS. Every device running iOs (iPhone) can run Apple CarPlay.

        • +2

          car audio installer here. confirmed.

  • I'm after this, a facia, amp, some speakers and the adaptor cables for a Subaru 2004 liberty.
Is it possible to get this all from you?

    • Yes it is, however, with the 2004 Liberty, the facia kits need to replace your climate controls, so it is quite expensive for the kit, $800+

      • I have a different head unit style at the moment it's only 200 as I don't need the climate control part.
Do you have the facia for only the 2004 McIntosh replacement?
If not I'll grab it elsewhere and get this unit AMP cables and the other bits

Any rough estimate for installation ?

    • +1

Installation for head units is unique to your car, due to different parts needed to make the installation happen. Jump onto www.aerpro.com, find your car and see what parts are required.

  • +1

Do you have a model with DAB?

    • Yeah, we've got a few. Jump on the website and have a look.

  • Does this fit in a vw Tiguan 2012? Do you guys do installation as well?

    • +1

Google rcd330plus or Rcd 340… you can get an original head unit for vw s that does car play and android auto.

      • Yes it does, and yes we do.

  • Still waiting for sony ax5000 on sale…

  • Anyone talk about advantages and disadvantages of having this over a decent Android head unit from ebay? It seems to me that rather than putting additional load on my phone, I could have Waze and music playing directly from my car, and I wouldn't need to plug my phone in each time. On the other hand, with Android auto I wouldn't have to pay for a second data sim just for the car, however there are advantages to that too e.g. tracing your car if stolen. Also these are generally more expensive. Anyone thought about this?

    • You can get an Android auto car play dongle and could install it seamlessly or create a hotspot automatically when Bluetooth is connected.

      Also checkout the app

      Head unit reloaded.

      • +1

The biggest pro/con we can give for that point is, yeah, through eBay you're going to get a cheaper unit with more 'features' however, there's no discernable quality control, zero warranty and there's a very high risk of it backfiring into your vehicles electrics. With every OEM device purchased you've got Australian Warranty backing your purchase and if it's installed by us, you've got installation warranty. It's all about protecting your money. As for the additional load on your phone comment, there really isn't one. You're plugged into the head unit, so you're charging your phone 100% of the time you're using it and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto is a skin on the OS itself, so it's not actually working any harder.

        • +1

Thanks for the considered response. All I meant was that it's working as hard as if you were using the phone without carplay/Android auto. Even under those conditions my phone can get scalding hot, these days with no removable batteries I ambnsure it makes a difference.

But great price and thanks for giving me something to think about

Most Android headunits i know take a while to boot up so it can be annoying when you need to use your reverse cam immediately after starting your engine…

  • +2

Installed a Chinese Android head unit 6 months ago in the wife's crv. Highly recommend. Came as a package, fascia kit, wiring harness and canbus decoder.

Sound amazingly good, tpms, dashcam, dab, reverse cam and Android auto.

Did a few mods like external microphone, external wifi antenna, BMW style centre console controls and got the swc to work out of the box.

Was tossing up getting a TV tuner but I think it's enough.

    Using the Agama launcher.

      Link?

      • What is your car?

        • any recommendation for Subaru outback 2015? how much did you pay for yours on the CRV? thanks!

          • @theoscat: Seicane, Teyes, Joying.

Mine was unbranded with an older OS but basically the same hardware as the first two. I ended up rooting it and installing a later OS with dolby atmos.

Nothing under 2gb,4 recommended. Does this look like your dashboard?

            https://a.aliexpress.com/_d8FcMUt

I also got an obd hooked up and using the torque pro app.

    • Did you take to an auto electrician to install?

      • Nope it was literally plug and play. Except for the reverse cam.

    • +3

That sounds great Korban! However, for the general public, we'd always suggest buying legitimate OEM hardware - from us, or anyone else. When dealing with eBay/Chinese/AliExpress type sellers and products you run into countless issues. Sure, your install and experience seem to have been great - but we've lost count of the number of cars we've had to gut to fix issues caused by these units to the wiring of cars, functionality of secondary features (like rain-sensing wipers?!). Not to mention those times where the unit just simply stops working. Those cases are the most common and as you've purchased from O/S and through sellers like this, you've got no warranty, no refund policy… it's all about doing it the safe way and protecting your money. But… what you've done to your wife's CRV sounds cool!

      • +1

I agree. I went through a bunch of cheap Chinese head units and they were all just junk. Painfully slow to boot and multiple sound issues. I had one manufacture really try to help with custom firmware etc but in the end just grabbed a Sony head unit with apple carplay and couldn't be happier.

    • @Korban Dallas, good job on wife's crv.

  • Will this fit perfectly for 1997 Prado?

    • Check out aliexpress, 97 is pretty old. Might not make the fascia, might not even be required.

    • It fits in the 95-series Prado perfectly.

  • +2

Would this work with a 2011 Corolla hatchbback? Not much of an auto guy… do you need any additional parts to install these?

  • This is a discontinued model. I wish the sony XAV-AX5000 was on discount.

    • +2

The AX5000 won't be on any large scale sales with anyone for a while #thankscorona

  • How does Pioneer Compare to Sony or Kenwood or JVC units?

    • It really depends on what metric you're talking about comparing. All four of those are good units with solid engineering behind them. What are you actually looking to compare? We'd say generally, Kenwood, Pioneer, JVC and then Sony in terms of build quality and innovation, however, it's hard to answer a question like that with so little guiding information.

  • I'm looking for something like this for a 2006 Toyota Corolla, would this fit ? Also can you do a deal on this plus a reversing camera that has the guide lines ?

    • Yeah mate, buy the pack and in the order notes, say you'd like the RCAM2 instead of the RCAM-AVIC. $399 delivered.

      • Thank you for the reply, i didn't realise the headunit did the guide lines though so all good.

Just trying to figure what is required though, do i need all of the different parts suggested here when i put the head unit model in? This is confusing for someone who has never looked at this before

        https://aerpro.com/vehicles/toyota/toyota-corolla-2002-2007?…

  • Hi OP, I checked out https://aerpro.com/ but it didn't have my model, a 2007 Lexus RX400 Hybrid. I currently have an Eclipse AVN827GA installed. Would this system be compatible with my car/do you sell kits for installation? Thanks!

    • I would say that the RX400 dash is pretty similar to the RX350 - in which case the Aerpro FP8031 would be what you're after. BUT, I would also give the store a call tomorrow just to make sure - 02 9708 5444. If it is; we can supply all parts needed!

  • Hi, just wondering if you have a facia for Mazda 2 DY (demio) 02-07 by any chance?

    • +1

I've just had a quick look around, I can't seem to find the facia kit for that car. Adapters and cables, yes, facia kit, no.

  • can I fit it into dualis 2012 myself? will I need anything else? thnx :)

    • +1

Yes mate, you can, you'd need your APP patch lead, Steering Wheel Control interface, antenna adapter, and video retention (if you've got a factory reverse camera). With those adapters, it becomes a literal plug 'n' play situation.

  • Hi rep, will steering wheel buttons for volume and calls still work with this head unit? (Subaru Outback 2011)

    • With the interface, yes

  • Any word on availability of JVC KW-V950BW?

  • Hi rep, compatible with VW 2015 Golf? What sort of interface kit would be required? Still wanting to make use of steering wheel controls etc.

  • Any idea what cables I'd need for a 2008 Mitsubishi Grandis? Aerpro website doesn't list my car.

  • Is this one single DIN?

    • +1

      Double DIN.

      • Double DIN isn't going to fit 95-series Prado :-(

  • Does this one do wireless Android auto?

    • No mate sorry, it doesn't.
