Internode Naked Question

Howdy, ive recently been brought back down to earth moving to the cbd and unfortunately unable to get NBN and had to downgrade to Adsl+2 with Internode.

Ive signed up to naked adsl for about a month or so while NBN is being constructed and due to complete on 16th of April.

In the meantime Im using my trusty Telstra branded modem tg799vac which is getting roughly 5mbps.

Im wondering if this is my maximum speed? im in Adelaide and thinking maybe a different modem may get higher speed? I was recently on NBN 100 with kogan and getting 85mbps so the adjustment is a little difficult with a few kids + wife trying to use the same network.

Thanks for any suggestions

That sounds pretty bad, naked was usually touted as 20mbps or 25mbps i thought?, unfortunately since its copper wires, and from the exchange (I think?) its typically much lower at like 15mbps. 5mbps sounds too low to me, I have pretty slow internet from vivid wireless but I still get 12Mbps, my old nakes DSL was never this slow.

Naked is just normal ADSL without a phone service.

    • I used to get 3mbps, parents get 5. So it’s common, distance and quialty of copper wiring matters a lot, plus possibly splitting within the wiring in the house.

  • Wa-hey naked! Sounds sexy mate.

Unfortunately for you ADSL is dependent on distance from exchange and copper wire quality. And copper slowly degrades over time providing worse and worse service.

Thanks to Liberal Party voters allowing Turdbull to hijack the NBN plan, many Australians are still relying on slowly degrading copper. These moronic fools effectively gave Telstra 60 billion dollars in exchange for screwing up half of the countries internet for decades to come.

You're probably pretty far from the exchange, a different modem might be slightly better but the difference will probably be minimal.

Have you looked into wireless broadband options? You could look at superloop or optus 5G, there are others depending on your location. If you can get it they will be far better than your 5mbps ADSL.

Just did an exchange search and im about 2.2km from the nearest one. Thanks for the suggestions guys, I will probably look into 5G in the meantime, bloody first world issues haha

  • Look into Optus 4G: https://www.optus.com.au/broadband-nbn/wireless-broadband (5G would be even better but coverage is very limited)…
