      Thanks mate

  • Anyone know how this compares to the Yamaha YAS-108B soundbar?

    • +2

The subwoofer on this will blow Yamaha's over.

      • The YAS-108B doesn't even have a subwoofer at all…

    • +2

I previously bought the Yamaha YAS-108B, and returned it so I could purchase this JBL model.

There is literally nothing in common between the two models, that's how good the JBL one is. The clarity, crispness, and definition of the sound from the JBL soundbar is fantastic. The subwoofer is really brilliant, and I am comparing it to my previous sub model, which is a Wharfedale Diamond SW-150, which alone cost more than the entire JBL system. Movies and shows are much more engrossing thanks to it's sound projection.

And the sheer power of the JBL setup is incredible. It can get stupendously loud, with very little distortion, if that is what you want.

One benefit that was unknown to me until plugging everything in, is that the JBL system will natively read the signal from some TV brand remotes, so you don't need multiple remotes. For me, it accepts the volume signal from my LG remote, and uses it to change the volume for the soundbar, and mute on/off. I have the soundbar connected using an Optical Cable, which is the best method. I can't remember, but I think it also accepts Sony remote signals. Please research for yourself.

I paid about $500 for this system months ago. This price is fantastic.

If I'm not mistaken, HDMI actually has better bandwidth and subsequently is the preferred method for connecting a soundbar or sound system to a TV these days.

      • Does the JBL turn on with the TV when it detects a signal over optical? We've got an older lg TV that doesn't do ARC

        • Sorry for late reply, mate.

Yes, the soundbar unit turns on and off whenever it detects the TV doing the same, over optical connection.

  • Question - my parents are really finding it difficult to use the AVR and surround sound setup I got for them a few years ago - will this one "just work" when they turn on the TV? If so, I think it maybe time to ditch the AVR.

    • Yes, if the TV has HDMI ARC. Otherwise you will have to turn on the soundbar manually.

      • Pretty sure it does - it's a relatively new Samsung QLED 4k - but it's connected to the Foxtel currently.

        Cheers.

        • Be aware in my experience arc doesn't always work. I have tried many things to fix it but it can be very temperamental.

          • @PlagueistheCheap: ARC on premium brand TVs always work, it's the budget brands that are hit and miss.

            • @igerstep: My pana has issues to the Pana sound bar.

              • @PlagueistheCheap: How old is the TV? Tried the soundbar with another TV?

                • @igerstep: Bought it in Dec from TGG, dont have another ARC TV. I have found alot of info about it on forums. Seems a common prob with no real solution. Ive given up solving it.

                  • @PlagueistheCheap: Unlucky, but you'd be within your rights to exchange the TV for one that works as advertised!

  • Things is cheapest so far OP, grabbed one, big thanks

  • Cheers OP bought it going by all the stellar reviews here and elsewhere. Also comes with a 2 year warranty. Bought the Yamaha awhile back but haven't got around to opening it yet so might sell that one and keep this instead. I do love my bass like a fat kid loves seedless watermelon.

Thanks OP, was going to get this for $425 last week and glad I held out. Soundbar required some tweaking to get it to sound to my liking, I found 'Movie' the best sound mode with surround turned off, bass set at 15. The included HDMI cable was faulty, I got an 'ERROR' message on the bar. Worked with a different HDMI cable.

  • $54 delivery tho

  • If you go to good guys site and to the soundbar, and select store stock is available, but via ebay no stock

  • I'd probably get this if it was shipped for free.

  • I had JBL cinema250 which older than this and the sound is good. I bet this new one would be much better.

  • Picked this up in store over the weekend price matched to online offer + 5% off gift cards

    • How did you do it? If you don't mind. Thanks.

      • I walk in with a smile and ask the sales person if they would match the online price.

        Then I purchase it.

  • Hello Everybody,

I bought the JBL bar 3.1 in this promotion and have been listening to it for the past week, but I am not wowed. Yes the sound is clear and crisp, but I normally have to push it up at level 20 to 25 to hear the good sound effects. Compared to that the TV on its own produces louder sound at the same level. What am i not getting here???

I am also not feeling the high booming bass as mentioned everywhere in the reviews, the sub is connected and i can feel the rumble when I put my hand on the sub woofer but from sound perspective not very heart pounding.

I have connected LG SM8100 65" via hdmi cable to the soundbar. On the HDMI Arc setting on the TV audio channel is set to AUTO, it has two other options PCM and Audio Pass through. When set to PCM it is always louder but I think it converts it to 2 channel system rather than 3?
The bass is set to 22 at the moment. And DTV setting inside Audio Additional setting in the tv is set to Auto as well.

So kindly let me know if I am expecting too much or this is how it should be?

    • +1

Something must be off with either the unit or the setup if you're unable to feel booming bass with it set to 22. What sources are you using for audio? Free to air TV probably isn't the best for demonstrating what this unit can do. Tried Blu-ray's or any high quality streaming service?

I have mine set to movie, surround off, and bass @ 17. It will rattle the walls and floor if I have it higher than that. Connected using the HDMI ARC port to my TV. All my other devices are also connected to the HDMI inputs on the bar, and it's so far accurately switched to the right one whenever I've needed it.

      • Hey gaz

Thanks for the reply. I have tried almost everything from free to air tv, YouTube 4k videos with hi-def audio, Netflix, amazon prime etc etc. Don't have blu-Ray player so haven't tested with that. At the moment only TV is attached with the soundbar nothing else.
Can you recommend any song on spotify / youtube or any movie on Netflix or Amazon prime that you have experienced with bass giving this rattling experience? At the moment I have surround on, but even with surround off I was not feeling the bass.

        • +1

Have you tried moving the subwoofer to a different location? Could possibly be the room acoustics.

        • Yeah as igerstep said, could be something to do with where the sub is positioned. I was watching John Wick 3 last night and the action scenes were punchy with bass.

          • @gaz090: Thanks for your replies guys. I think this is a valid point regarding the room acoustics. And also I think time of the day matters as well. Its not that the bass is not felt but my confusion is for that the volume level has to be set to 25 and above with bass level at 22.
My understanding was at low level volumes i would feel the difference, and that is where i have my major doubts.

  • Hi guys, i just bought this Soundbar because of the good review overall. I found out that centre speaker is not working, eventhough the movies format is Dolby, anyone experiences the same problem? I have upgrade the firmware to 49.

  • +1

You have to use it on "surround mode" in order to have the center channel working
