Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 2S RFID

Does anyone know if the RFID on the filters for this purifier are based on time/days/hours, making you purchase filters regardless of how "used" they are.

I'm considering removing the chip from my new filter and attaching it to my old filter which has 0%, to see if this is just a scam to sell more filters.

Any thoughts?

  • If you move the RFID chip to a new filter it will think its the old one and report it as used.

I'm not sure if it tracks it just based on hours used or something more complicated like total airflow or total PM values, but either way its going to think its the old filter and it wont change anything.

A better way to test it would be to run it at a fixed speed for 100 hours and see what change that makes to the remaining lifetime and then do the same thing with another filter at another speed and see if you get a different result.

    • I was thinking the other way around, moving the new chip to old filter and putting the old filter back in to see if it says 100% remaining.

  • yeah im interested too. didnt realised the 2s model has this chip otherwise i will just buy the first gen. now way i am changing the filter every 3 months

    • Even though the 2s says its filter has 0% of life left, it doesn't cripple it from working. I've since vacuumed cleaned mine and wrapped it with air conditioning filter paper.

Its based on how 'dirty' the air is going through the machine, the time spent running and the fan speed.

Mines at 31% with 45 days remaining. It runs 17 hrs a day, on manual fan speed of about 1/3. For me this works out to around 5 months filter life or 2600 hours.

It does seem like a scam but luckily these units support filters without RFID as well. You can put metal between the RFID reader on the base of the unit and the chip to block the reading and manually reset the filter usage using the button on the back of the unit if you think there’s still plenty of life left in the filter (or if you prefer to wash the filter and reuse it).

when the filter down to 0% it will pop out a reminder msg when u turn it on,
this msg will disappear in seconds, won't have any effect at the use of the Air Purifier.
u can use this Air Purifier without any filters at all, so the RFID ar not necessary.
