Cheap refurbished B&N Nook Color (Android tablet). Can be hacked to Honeycomb. Etc. On eBay.

Two discussion points.

1) Grab a deal on a refurbished Nook Color: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/52250

This 7" Tablet can be hacked to port Honecomb or Gingerbread. Can even dual boot OSes

2) Deal wasn't published because it lacked an ABN. I'd suggest OzBargain reconsider this.

The deal is covered by eBay's buyer protection and also, if you paid with paypal and a credit card, you can get a chargeback in event that you get shafted. But the seller is reputable.

  • No ABN = influx of e-bay items + increase in SPAM. You can still post it here tho.

    • Fair enough but a deal is a deal. And the other rules (more than 10 of each item for example), make it worthwhile to post it as a deal.

Lots of ebay deals from abroad and with the strong AUD, we'll be looking to buy from overseas.

Can you provide a link to the eBay listing please?

    Try this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/110737964570#ht_4263wt_1141

Seems like a fab deal (I bought one).

Gonna try to put Honeycomb on it.

Youtube videos showing Honeycomb suggests it's stable and runs well. Can't wait.

Good form factor and size too. I prefer a smaller tablet.

Mytab etc pales in terms of hardware. This has a capacitative touchscreen and has similar hardware specs as the original Galaxy Tab (minus front and back cameras). So way better than the cheaper tabs.

Think of it as a half-price Galaxy Tab instead of an overpriced Mytab. :-)

This video compares it to the Galaxy Tab: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCgGWJjHZxc&feature=related

And this one shows Honeycomb (Dev version):

    • Hmm, does seem rather cheap compared to the other sellers on ebay.

Time to decide on this or wait for that $199 lenovo tablet. Decisions, decisions.

      • Whats the $199 lenovo tablet?

    • Honeycomb is nothing more than a development version, there is no stable honeycomb port because honeycomb's source is not available.

Cyanogen mod based on gingerbread runs nicely on the nook color but remember Gingerbread is not a tablet OS in any shape or form.

The nook color is brilliant if that size suits you - it fits in jacket or coat pocket, it's pretty snappy with cyanogen and the screen is a brilliant sharp IPS screen and the least reflective glossy LCD screen in any device.

pros: brilliant screen, cheap, very well designed and solidly built, runs android which has about 1000 times more apps than webOS
cons: battery life is only ok, weak wifi antenna (more like a phone antenna than a tablet antenna), gingerbread is not a tablet OS

I didnt know Google started making Android tables. Impressive. The table can be hacked too? :O

    • Just a matter of time considering what Microsoft's about to launch

Be interesting to see Apple follow suit, and see the lines outside the Apple store at launch with people stumbling out with huge boxes!

Bugger, your title line made me imagine getting a table sized display to boast about, then I discover it's missing a t. :)

Beaten by several seconds by JLove. :(

  • You big problem would be in the item arrives damaged, DOA, or dies soon after use. The minimum you will have to pay would be registered post back to USA to get your money back - item not as described. AS he is using USPS Priorty you could not use item not received if you got a dud. Reading the guys T & C looks like he would try and avoid doing this for you - "15% stocking fee" - really a nonsense statement, but indicates he might not be accomodating.

If it dies after s bit of time (beyond Paypal) - I am not sure how effective your credit card chargeback would be.

At 99.3% feedback - i would be a bit concerned about the guys customer serivce/products.

    • Hey, it's a crapshoot with electronics but ironically, most of my products that die within warranty have been, erm Apple. Haha.

99.3% with 17K plus sales isn't that bad. Did you see the replies to all the negatives and neutrals?

In any case, I'll keep you updated. Haven't had issues with purchases on ebay. Don't anticipate any this time round.

      • Chances are you will be find, it is just a % of those sold could have problems. However, this could be the same with any retail store. Like you said a "crapshoot".

  • no 3g, is it really cost that much more to put it in?!
much better if you can check email on the run.

    • What it costs to put it in, and the difference it makes to the retail price are probably poles apart.
