A short hike sounds exactly like what I was thinking i wanted to play last night, just something to explore and be calm. Cant wait for this

I have played it and it's a nice little relaxing game lasting about 90mins.

    • I've heard heaps of good things about it and I've wanted to play it for a while. If you have humble bundle choice it is available currently for free within the humble bundle trove.

  • I really hate the Epic Launcher, trying to update a massive game and it's fully eating my bandwidth so I can't it can't even load up the UI to pause it.

    • Not really an issue. You can limit the bandwidth for the launcher so it does not take all I believe. Plus it might be particular to your setup - it does not happen to me or any of my friends when using the launcher.
Plus, the smart thing to do is to download and update games at night as you are then busy doing something else. ;-)

      • I'll take another look when I get home but I didn't notice anything like that when it happened last. It's got auto updates enabled so it can really kill my net usage at unexpected times.

        • +1

I always disable auto updates for every launcher as Steam really messes me up otherwise.
I want to be in control and decide when I want to update, not just some stupid software. Plus sometimes updates are not necessarily good and useful.

          • @Lysander: Fair enough, with Steam I have it set to half my max speed so it can update whenever without interrupting my browsing or streaming.

Epic at the moment just maxes it out so I can't do anything.

          • @Lysander: I just checked my Epic Launcher and you can't limit the speed on it, my connection only maxes out at about 600kb/s so it doesn't take much to clog my connection.

            • @Dunan: You need extra software to limit bandwidth - the Epic launcher itself cannot do it unfortunately.
I do hope though this is not too often a problem for you and that maybe Epic implements that functionality later.

              • @Lysander: I'm hoping for it too but I'll follow your advice and just manually update stuff overnight if I remember.

              • @Lysander: I just rearranged my hard drives. One of the downsides was that a few games didn't like being relocated and had to be redownloaded, and Epic was being very painful due to that inability to limit the download speed (and my eldest two were trying to game online and it was eating all the bandwidth).

I found a piece of software called Netlimiter which solved this problem nicely. Wound Epic down to 1.5Mbps, went to bed.

                • -1

@Grissallia: I was able to limit the dl speed of my Epic launch last night when updating slime rancher.

                  • @knobbs: LMAO yeah downvote me for stating some facts!

                  • @knobbs: @knobbs: I still don't see any option in the Epic Games Launcher UI to limit download speed. Where are you configuring it?

I am using the version '6.16.0.release' on Windows 10.

                    • @bargainpersona: I'll try and get a screenshot tonight to show you

                      • @knobbs: Thanks! Is there a weird difference between downloading and updating ro something? I have never had a game update on EGS.

      • None of the launchers (Steam included) have a 'shutdown after download' option which would be nice. I could time my shutdown (with shutdown /t XXX) but download rates can vary. First world problems I know.

PS4 downloads are great cos you can put the system into a low power mode and it'll download in the background.

        • have a 'shutdown after download' option which would be nice

          Windows has power settings …

          • +1

@Diji1: Unfortunately you trailed off before telling us how to use (just) Windows power settings in order to get it to shut itself down in response to Steam downloads finishing.

      • Not really an issue.

Clearly it is an issue for him.

There isn't anything builtin to do it. You need to use n third party software such as NetLimiter or some such.

Of all the complaints about EGL, this is the one that I do share.

However, I do not have the UI locking up problem that they mentioned despite my connection being saturated when downloading.

The smart thing to do is configure their computer how they like but in this instance it is not that simple.

      • there's no bandwidth limiter at all so i have no idea what you're talking about

i have pretty good downloads so it's actually more annoying to go do something else, most stuff takes maybe 30 min to an hour to download so if i could just knock 1mbps off the top i could still use the internet/play other online games while it downloads, and the downloader is thirsty af, i can't download something while my kids watch youtube or the videos drop to 260p with constant pausing and netflix is right out

Damn, 3 games! How good is EPIC?

Played Mutazion on Apple Arcade, I’d recommend giving it a go even if it seems like it’s not your thing. It took me by surprise.

A Short Hike looks so chill!

  • Thanks OP
