IKEA Eat Your Discount! Dec 12-16

730

Not sure why this hasn't been posted yet… Just saw it in the 2012 Ikea Catalogue. Valid from December 12th-16th.

"Eat, shop, save! Eat at our restaurant when you shop and we'll take the price of your meal off your in-store purchases."

I'm assuming this is for all stores seeing as its in their annual catalogue.

Enjoy!

Mod: Added dates to title. Please remind a mod in December and we will sticky to frontpage

EDIT: Cheers mod! Hope I remember then!

Thrymr - "Probably worth noting that this is applicable only in NSW, QLD, and VIC.

WA and SA have a different catalogue (http://onlinecatalogueasia.ikea.com/AUW/en/2012/IKEA_Catalog…), and this promo isn't featured in it."

greenpossum - "Remember that you must lump all your food and drink purchases on one docket. They won't accept multiple dockets at the checkouts."

Mod: All fixed and stickied.

Not sure why this hasn't been posted yet… Just saw it in the 2012 Ikea Catalogue. Valid from December 12th-16th.

I think you just answered your own question ;)

    • I posted it in another IKEA ozbargain deal.
You are just too early in my opinion.

      • Yea I think I saw that. Posting it early doesn't hurt, would give a heads up to those who were thinking of buying something soon!

        • Yep, it's good for people who will save their purchase for the promo.
I'm not annoyed or anything, I just thought over 3 months is a little bit too early :)

  • +10

Gotta love them catalogues from the future ;)

    • +9

What's wrong with flat pack sandwiches? ;)

    • +18

      ikea meatballs are amazing

      • Is that good or bad? :)

        • +4

they like came in round shapes in the land of flat packs = mind blown.

      • +1

yeah just what are they made from? reindeer? recycled ikea mdf? santa's elves?

      • no they're not.. mediocre at best =\

      • The meatballs are good, but watch the sauce…

I've never had an allergy in my life, but after eating the largest serving I came out in bumps all over my upper arms and chest.

Needless to say, I haven't had them since.

        • Allergies depend on the person so only you and a handful of individuals should watch the sauce

  • +13

Thanks. I'll postpone the purchase of that lounge suite and the visit of my 25 extended family members until then. :)

    • +3

how many meatballs will that get you?

      • Step 1. Live in Ikea as a family for a week
Step 2. Take over Bedroom section for the night
Step 3. Get Free Furniture for eating + Free Drinks from Family Card
        Profit?????

    • Classic! Thank-you…

We need a better way to give credit to wonderful "extremist OzB" thinking - as evidenced in this exchange above:

      Dzero

would give a heads up to those who were thinking of buying something soon!

      or Adamiam

Yep, its good for people who will save their purchase for the promo.

Perhaps an "OzB fundamentalist" hall of fame!

      • +1

You should take a look at mobius below: he was apparently willing to hold off eating until Dec. :)

  • +6

Last time they had this deal there were thousands of people there filling trolleys with food. The queue was about 25 minutes to pay. If you're already going to buy something from Ikea it's a great deal. Some people were buying food they could take home, like water bottles, boxed chocolates, etc. And Ikea staff kept their food shelves stocked!

  • Bummer! Should have waited till Dec before getting the $1800 TV cabinet! Too bad they don’t do birthday parties like MacDonald or HungryJacks.

    • +8

no one is stopping you from bringing 18 kids into the food hall ;)

      • +4

plus Ikea has the largest hide and seek playing field

  • If you are making a large purchase and you can just buy heaps of water/coke bottles and boxed chocolates then this is a good deal but the Ikea food that they serve tastes like hospital food and the dining area is filthy

    • +6

      I love hospital food.

      • +1

the jelly and icecream is the best thing…

    • Their meatballs are awesome. You're silly.

  • +1

Damn just had meatballs yesterday and missed out on this discount!

    • +24

So you were willing to hold off eating another 3 months…?!?

      • +22

        This IS Ozbargain…

        • +7

I pretended that you said that in Gerard Butler's 300 voice :)

    • +1

Ikea sales, pizza coupons and free coffee+tart from Gloria Jeans is all I live off

      • Indulge every now and then, get a $2 whopper ;)

        • Free from footy tipping

  • +3

Sweet deal - but can you imagine how bloody packed the place would be just over a week out from Christmas?

  • +2

Sweet! Meatballs takeaways for Christmas guests! :D

    • You've got a death wish, don't you? ;-)

  • err.. is this for december 2012 ??

  • +1

Probably worth noting that this is applicable only in NSW, QLD, and VIC.

WA and SA have a different catalogue (http://onlinecatalogueasia.ikea.com/AUW/en/2012/IKEA_Catalog…), and this promo isn't featured in it.

  • +1

To cheat the system, ozbargain style, then buy 150 bottles of water at $2 each.
Then get a nice bookcase/dining table for free.
Just a reminder, that IKEA is busy as it is now. You might be waiting in line for a long time.
PS- please dont come through my check out when this promo happens

    • I see it as you buy a bookcase and have a shitload of bottled water to take home lol

  • +1

Remember that you must lump all your food and drink purchases on one docket. They won't accept multiple dockets at the checkouts.

  • Can't wait for this! I think during the first time they did this you could have multiple dockets. This combined with the 10% off giftcard promotion was just too good!

Besides water bottles what are people going to buy to take home? Last time had the salmon and that was ok along with meatballs. Was going to lug in some bottled water but didn't think it was included :/ until I checked out and saw people with heaps of bottled water trays..

  • +1

Its only from the resturant right? Not the food shop after the checkouts…. So really all you could get would be bottled water and chocolates to takeaway.

    • Yeah can someone clarify that? if I could go to the food after the checkouts it would be so awesome. If I remember correctly they have a small selection of frozen goods in the restaurant (or am i just getting mixed up?).

      • There isn't any frozen foods in the restaurant.
There is drinks, cakes and various other sweets for <$5.

      • The conditions state that it is only applicable for food from the restaruant, eaten while there.

        • +1

So basically puffy jacket is the word.

  • love this PROMO!!!

  • Nice! Eat a $2 hotdog and get a free light bulb!

    • +1

my light globe cost $15 for my $15 floor lamp :(

      • that's an expensive hotdog

  • I had to read this a few times. Dec 12-16?? Wow, I've never seen a catalogue posted so early!

  • That's Christmas dinner sorted then :)

  • More details here: http://www.ikea.com/au/en/campaigns/campaign_EYD2011.html

    Note:

    • The offer only applies for food and a drink consumed immediately in the restaurant and does not apply to purchases in the Bistro or Swedish Food Market.
    • The restaurant receipt is only valid on the date stated on the receipt.
    • Well that means you need people that eat a lot so its consumed "immediately".
So who wants to come and get my mate and myself? We'll consume enough for you to get your furniture ;)

      • +1

I wonder though, how can they really know whether you've "consumed immediately" your 50 bottles of water and juice?

        • +2

an extreme ozbargainer will down 20 cans of swedish beer and lug an ikea mattress up the tram to save on delivery fees.

  • Going there on Friday (16 December), and hopefully would get enough IKEA gadgets to feed breakfast, lunch and dinner for a family of 4.

  • +4

im going in Tuesday arvo. gunna treat the missus to a night out. bit of a change from the Sprinvale Waltzy!

    • @ bergerberger - Hilarious

    I can't +1 this, getting the error

    Cannot Vote on This Deal
Voting not allowed on deals posted more than 60 days ago

    • Yeah same…

And the deal just appeared out of nowhere with 73 votes already in place ?!?!?
I guess it is because it was posted such a long time ago and they are currently trying to make it "sticky"..

      • Yes there are quite a few issues of resurrecting old posts back to the front page, as a lot of restriction here on OzBargain is time-based.

  • perth as well now

The 'Eat Your Discount' offer is valid on Monday to Friday from 12th December until 23rd December 2011.
Eat Your Discount can only be redeemed at the Adelaide and Perth IKEA stores

  • Is there a purchase limit on how much you can 'eat'? :)

    • +1

Nope. I'd edit the original post to add more details that other members have posted but it's been locked =(

  • Heading to Tempe tomorrow!

  • not allow to vote :( anyway thanks for this! am about to go to Ikea to buy a whole heap of soft toys, so this is handy. From 1 Nov to 24 Dec, for each soft toy sold, Ikea will donate 1 euro (approx $1.3) to Unicef (childrens fund for school supplies etc) http://www.ikea.com/ms/en_AU/rooms_ideas/soft_toys_12/index.…

  • So you can literally go in with your family, buy food, pretend your eating at a kings banquet, then walk out with a few free light globes?

    • Provided the light globes are of equal or greater cost than your meal. Otherwise the discount is just the value of the light globes. Easier to think of it this way, you pay for the goods and you get a free meal up to the value of the goods.

  • Make sure you are in need & decided to buy some IKEA stuffs, so you can view this deal as a bargain …
Otherwise it is just another way to overspend money on foods (today I've seen some people filling up the 3 tier food trolley) and buy whatever they can later …

  • IKEA Perth are having their Eat Your Discount offer from 12-23 December

  • I want a desk, but I don't know if i want to eat 25$ worth of meatballs.

    • You buy them, I'll eat them. Sounds like a good deal to me :)

  • +1

I used to eat out at IKEA, then I took an arrow in the knee.

  • +1

dear god the queue! insane at Rhodes atm lol only one register open… which retarded manager decided that was a smart idea : /

    • +1

The IKEA christmas party was yesterday. Lots of people calling in "sick" ;)

  • +1

Anyone confirm what the queues are like at Springvale? i'm scared to go tomorrow now!

    • The queues were not bad at all at Springvale, I have been in worse on the weekend! And they had lamb shanks with mash, so yummy! :)

      • Sounds good :)

  • How busy was it at Rhodes today during the day? It's not school holiday yet…

    • +1

Restaurant was busy during the day but they were running two queues serving food from both sides. The queues at the registers past the warehouse on the other hand was insane. Don't expect the self-service lanes to be "express" lanes. Staff have to manually key in the discount.

  • +1

Went to Ikea Tempe tonight for dinner and a Billy bookcase. There was a queue, but it only took about 5 minutes to get through. This was about 7.45 pm.

When the person at the register saw the five bars of chocolate on the tray she reminded my wife that all food had to be consumed in the restaurant for it to apply to the discount. We obviously didn't eat them on the spot, but there was no issue claiming the discount at the checkout.

    • So there was no issue, even though you didn't eat all five chocolate bars at the restaurant?
I wonder how far they would allow it?

      • The five bars of chocolate went into my wife's handbag and I seriously doubt they would search bags. Five bars of chocolate was really only 'testing the water', so to speak. A couple of dozen bottles of water may be a different story. In any case, it didn't seem like the person at the checkout paid much attention to what was on the receipt except the total price at the bottom, which had to be entered in manually as a discount. However, she could have been rushing because it was 15 minutes to closing time and there was a queue behind us.

        • lol, isn't it once you pay you take the food and leave. how they gonna know if you consume it all there or not?

    • In case it isn't clear enough, I meant "register" to be the restaurant and "checkout" to be where you pay for self-service furniture purchases etc.

  • so how does this work? is there a code or something on the receipt they enter into the register?

    • you just hand your restaurant receipt over at the checkout, they match up the total from the restaurant with the total from the items you're buying.

    • Strictly speaking there is no matching. They just deduct the meal cost from the goods cost, up to the value of the goods (you don't get money back).

  • So how does this work?
Say a group of 4 mates go together, and as long as they pay together (on the one receipt, is this allowed?), they get the discount of all 4 meals?

    • yes. as long as it's on the one receipt, the total of that receipt is your discount

      • Are all 4 mates going to purchase things at IKEA? kinda evens itself out if 4 eat and 4 purchase? no point all on one invoice?

      • Yes, but if only person is going to buy stuff, then s/he can shout the rest.

  • how is the que at Rhodes today? thinking of going this afternoon. Will buy a whole lot of chocolates and things that can be taken home. Can you buy all the food and then take it back to your car, then go back in with the receipt to get your Ikea products?

    • Yeah, probably can take food to car then go back in.

Speaking of which, I saw a couple last night with true Ozbargainer spirit. They got a whole bunch of Ikea tupperware containers, washed em, then bought a tonne of food and filled the containers. Would have been interesting at the checkout…

  • +1

i was at Rhodes last night 6:30 - 8pm. massive queue for hot food but not too bad at the cashier (i only bought cold drinks and only waited 5min to pay). people buying huge quantities of bottle water/juice and bars of chocolate. the cashier at restaurant did not say you have to consume it all. i am not sure if people put their stuff back to their car first or not. at the store checkout the cashier just input the value of receipt i dont think she cared whether you consumed it all or not. the couple in front of me had value left over and she was encourging them to use it up by grabbing some cheap xmas decorations near the cashier! the queue is not that bad either. less than 10min.
