Nokia 5.1 Plus Damaged Won't Charge Properly

My wife has a Nokia 5.1 plus. The terminal where it charges up was damaged when the phone came out of the power socket and it smashed the ground with the charger. Obviously this won't be covered by warranty. The phone charges a bit when you bend the cord on the charger and wrap it around the phone. But not properly. What would be our best option to fix it without paying a fortune? Can we just order the part online? Where would be the best place to do so? Would it be easy to replace ourselves? Thanks.

    Buy a new phone.

Sounds like the connector is lose, might be fixable cheaply at one of the phone repair stores if its just a broken joint.

        But honestly…..

        Budget won't allow.

They're $277 new……. So not sure how much you really want to spend on repairing the phone.

        • Any idea how much?

@BluebirdV: Try calling a phone repair shop, they'd probably have a better idea than a random ozbargain user.

          • @BluebirdV: No idea, go in and have a chat to them

      • Not a flagship phone, around $200
You need to spend hrs on how to take it apart correctly, time cost money.
You need the correct gear, screwdrivers and soldering iron, sealant glue etc.
If required, you need to find a correct part.
Either get a new phone which your budget allows, ie second hand or cheap.

Not sure how similar the Nokia 2.1 is to the 2.1 Plus, but there are a few disassembly videos on YouTube. This is a pretty good one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1PVpMkAbY4

It doesn't seem too difficult to open, so open it up and have a look to see what's been damaged. There are usually parts on AliExpress that you can buy to swap out.

If the charge port is broken, you'll need to be handy with a soldering iron: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1q9RM80BZ4M

  • Looks like the charging port has its own sub board, so it's just phone disassembly, then disconnecting the flex cable going to the charging port board, and swapping in the new one.

  • Sorry, edit it's a Nokia 5.1 Plus
