End-of-Life Of BOOST 12-Month Prepaid. How To Continue?

Approaching End-of-Life Of BOOST 12-Month Prepaid. How To Continue?

The folks signed up to the 12-month BOOST Prepaid plan [80GB], in April 2019.

They mostly used to call International destinations, and are very happy with the service.

In fact, that's all they did - call. There's still about 79GB of data still left. Ha.

Anyway, if they want to keep the same number and continue with BOOST,
what needs to happen when the 12-month prepaid plan runs out?

  • should they port out, and then port back in, with a new BOOST SIM card ?
( should the port out, happen before the expiry date? )

  • is there a way to sign up to another 12-months, on current SIM card (i.e. not take out the SIM card out of the phone) ?
sometimes, the contacts are saved onto the SIM card and swapping SIM cards are a small hassle.

Yes, if you want to save some money if another boost deal comes up. No, they can port out after the expiry date

Yes, either go to a retailer and buy a $150 recharge voucher or recharge online

    • I always thought that the $150 deal included the SIM card,
so that's why I thought the 12-month 'contracts' were attached to the SIM card.

I didn't know the $150 offer (with SIM card) can be used to recharge an existing Boost prepaid plan.

..or I am wrong in understanding it that way, i.e. I should only buy the RECHARGE package and not the SIM-package ?

    How To Continue?

Recharge with $150 and away you go again for 12 months.

Who can be bothered to save $15 for the year…..

  • Wait for Coles for their $135 offer

Given that porting in and out can be a major hassle if something goes wrong, not worth it. There is a lot of complaints in porting to ALL telcos in the forums. Pay the $15

I am in the same boat in May, I'm thinking of buying with discounted woolies gift card, which I always buy anyway. Save $7.50. Only thing is I'm not too sure if woolworths sells the $150 boost voucher like Coles

    • and this is what has just happened to me. ported over the phone, gave my porting number and they just activated the number that came with the sim. i realised a few days later and now i'm trying to get my number back. can't activate it again with previous provider (that login is dead) so it's in limbo.

they claim they will get back to me but didn't even have a contact number for me.

      • and now i'm trying to get my number back

Yep its the risk you run when porting, you might have an issue and takes days or weeks to resolve.

In the OP case, they'll save $13 assuming they have to buy a $2 sim to port to, so they can port back.

Not worth the hassle or risk to save at best $15 over the year.

Seriously? You just get online or use the boost app on their phone to buy a new recharge for their account - done.

    • I didn't realize, we could just do a 'top up',
ie. pay another $150 for the next 12 months.

I was thinking that the current 12-month plan,
will expire and the number will also cease (as per the 12-month "contract").

      • Hopefully the $150 recharge goes on sale again to $135; I waited until Coles had a 10% off deal a month or two ago and bought the recharge then. The voucher is sitting in my wallet for use around April as well

        • I sure hope the Coles deal comes back soon as I am due to recharge at the start of May.

Also same thing here with data, I still have over 60GB out of my yearly 80GB.

Getting some great speed tests with Boost though, like 256MB down at 6am today!

C'mon Coles, reach out to your OzBargainer's :)
