What Max RAM Is Compatible with HP PAVILION 590-P0049a?

Hi,

Recently bought this Desktop from HP https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06413204, it came with an 8GB DDR4-2666 SDRAM (1 x 8 GB).

I am wondering what's the maximum RAM I can use in the second available slot (I think it has 2, and second one is available)?

Here are specifications for the Motherboard - https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05991291
It states MB supports Dual channel memory architecture, Two DDR4 UDIMM (288-pin) sockets, Supports up to PC4-21300 (DDR4 2666), Supports 4 GB and 8 GB DDR4 UDIMMs and Supports up to 32 GB (with two 16 GB modules) and 16 GB (with two 8 GB modules) on 64-bit computers.

Can I use a 16GB in the second slot? Or is the second slot is limited to 8GB because the other one has 8GB in it?

Second question - is this Desktop 4K compatible? I have Samsung LC34J791 monitor, and the image is bit blurry. Wonder if this is something to with limitations of the desktop itself? I don't play games, just browsing and various Microsoft applications (Word, Excel etc) is what I mainly work on.

Run a Scan @ Crucial.com and that will tell you how much ram you can have in your PC (and how many slots you have).

It should work considering it says "up you 32gb" - don't see why it wouldn't work

  • Try ramcity they usually have wizard to check which ram compatible.

    • As per RAMCity -> Upgrade Path: Configurations up to 32GB can be reached using any combination of 4, 8 and 16GB modules.
16GB stick in second slot, will work fine.

Sounds like you have a solution then. Good luck.

        • Thanks mate.

Posted this question as part of another Post but didn't get a response.

    • Your problem isn't that the computer doesn't support 4K (it does), it's that your monitor isn't 4K. From a quick Google, the Samsung LC34J791 is a WQHD 3,440 x 1,440 monitor.

Change your windows resolution to the above and it should look sharper, but you might also need to change specific programs and games to this resolution separately too.

      • Yes, that what I have set the resolution at (in fact by default). But picture isn't as clear as it is when I plug in my Mac to it.

        • Is there any kind of graphics scaling turned on? Because of the higher resolution, I think windows sometimes automatically turns on scaling which, other than 100% or 200%, can make things blurry too.
