Very highly rated book.

A believer of the Religious Science movement, a spiritual, philosophical and metaphysical religious movement within the New Thought movement, Joseph Murphy was a doctor of psychology who wrote extensively about the power of the subconscious mind. In an introduction to his most popular book on the subject, "The Power of Your Subconscious Mind", he writes "I have endeavored to explain the great fundamental truths of your mind in the simplest language possible. I believe that it is perfectly possible to explain the basic, foundational, and fundamental laws of life and of your mind in ordinary everyday language. You will find that the language of this book is that used in your daily papers, current periodicals, in your business offices, in your home, and in the daily workshop. I urge you to study this book and apply the techniques outlined therein; and as you do, I feel absolutely convinced that you will lay hold of a miracle-working power that will lift you up from confusion, misery, melancholy, and failure, and guide you to your true place, solve your difficulties, sever you from emotional and physical bondage, and place you on the royal road to freedom, happiness, and peace of mind. This miracle-working power of your subconscious mind can heal you of your sickness; make you vital and strong again. In learning how to use your inner powers, you will open the prison door of fear and enter into a life described by Paul as the glorious liberty of the sons of God."

If you want free bullshit you're welcome to come to my farm.

So which part of the premise or contents to you think are false? (I didn't neg you either)

      • +8

I think you can stop at the "Religious Science (movement)" with two logically irreconcilable things. "Movement" indicates a cult.

        • +9

I think you can stop at ‘religious science’.

          • @ladis: Actually I've never heard of them so I have NFI what their spiel is. I've heard of the Christian science crowd and Scientology of course, and don't forget 'scientism' which is like a secular 'religion' for a lot of people. Either way I'm looking forward to reading the book.

Don't neg me, the thetans made me do it.

@EightImmortals: Christian science leads to Flat Earth societies, creationism in 7 days and great floods that wiped out everything except for a boat of human family with a mating pair of animals for every species on this planet.

              • +3

@bchliu: "Christian science" is actually separate thing all by itself established by Mary Baker Eddy back in the 18th century. :)

But I know what you mean. As for the book in the OP.

                I think it's this mob. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religious_Science
Science of Mind was established in 1927 by Ernest Holmes (1887–1960) and is a spiritual, philosophical and metaphysical religious movement within the New Thought movement. In general, the term "Science of Mind" applies to the teachings, while the term "Religious Science" applies to the organizations. However, adherents often use the terms interchangeably.

In his book, The Science of Mind, Ernest Holmes stated "Religious Science is a correlation of laws of science, opinions of philosophy, and revelations of religion applied to human needs and the aspirations of man." He also stated that Religious Science/Science of Mind (RS/SOM) is not based on any "authority" of established beliefs, but rather on "what it can accomplish" for the people who practice it.[1] Today the International Centers for Spiritual Living, the United Centers for Spiritual Living (which combined into the Centers for Spiritual Living in 2011) and Global Religious Science Ministries are the main denominations promoting Religious Science. )

@EightImmortals: Lol. I'd like to see the Christian Science pray away CORVID-19.. much like the Korean who infected their church to pray for a cure.

                • -1

@EightImmortals: religious science is an oxymoron, like a tall dwarf.

        • -1

Religious science “Movement”. As in bowel movement.

    • It's probably about using visualisation which is effective and used by many disciplines today such as athletics or cognitive therapy.

      • +3

        It's probably about…

So you're having a guess what the book is about, then qualifying that guess with background information about the disciplines using the process you guessed. Good job.

Since the author uses the word "miracle" twice in his introduction, guessing what else might be found within is not required.

    • I haven't read this book but I've read one like it and it is effective.

If you think the ability to change your subconscious mind is bullshit, how do you think you're able to touch type on the keyboard without thinking about it?
That is your subconscious mind doing it because your conscious mind at some point did it enough that it became second nature.

Now that we have established that the subconscious exists and you can teach it things, then why can't you change what it has learnt or unlearn things?

    Oh it's free….cool thanks got it. :)

    • +2

It's not free if you spend (waste) time on reading it. Compared to thousands of "free" books already on Amazon daily.

      • +3

Meh I waste time on a lot of things way less useful than the pursuit of knowledge. :)

  • It's not hodgepodge is it

  • How did this get on the front page? Yes, it's free. But it's still Religious Science rubbish.

    • Sadly, it's because some people believe in that shit.

    • You will find that OzBargain is skewed very Christian. Not sure why, but I’ve always been fascinated by it.

  • thanks op

ordered both US and Oz version

Instead of wasting your time reading some pseudo-science ebook, I would recommend watching this Ted Talk by Captain Chris Hadfield, the first canadian astronaut. He talks about how to overcome your fears and why he didn't panic when he went blind while on a space walk.

    • Or read (optionally listen via audiobook) to "An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth" by him. Decent book.

      • +1

Yes :) He goes more in-depth about his experiences as an astronaut and how to overcome fear in his book. But this is ozbargin though- unless you can post a link to a free copy of it, no one's going to bother. I was hoping the YouTube video I've linked to gives them a gist of what's he's about and might make them want to learn more about what it really takes to make your dreams come true.

The bargain is knowing about it i.e. free information :-). Things don't have to be "Free" to be a bargain.

Why do I see this - This title is not currently available for purchase?

    • I think it has to do something with country settings, under MANAGE MY CONTENT.
