  • do you use 2 for both ends of the car or for 2 different car ?

  • +1

I assume international version means it's in English? I've read plenty of people with these that it will just randomly yell at you in Mandarin.

Also I believe this is a battery model - those in hot climates may prefer to steer towards a version with a capacitor instead.

    • This one is definitely English.

    • you reckon it wont withstand WA heat ?

      • +1

For $50 you you can't go too wrong, just keep in mind batteries absolutely do not like extreme heat which is why capacitor versions exist.

        • Do you have a few dash cameras with capacitors on your wishlist? I wouldn't mind looking into getting dual cameras.

been 2 years for mine, still stick to the windshield pretty strong, that's a pass in my book.
        (my car is never garaged)

      • +4

Had mine for over 2 years in WA, international version.

Car is parked on the open train station car park for half the week. 0 issues so far.

Only things I'd recommend is not using the plastic film stick on part, just use the straight 3m sticky foam pad on the windshield and it's never moved. Means more hassle changing car/selling car, but worth it.
Also disable voice commands, it goes off a lot randomly.

      • thanks all

I bought one of those Kapture units at JBHIFI and they didn't last long in WA heat.

Battery replacement was not covered so I just had to buy off eBay and replace it myself. A pain.

    • I have the Chinese version (got it when it came out), still no problem.

you can turn off voice recognition if you don't want your voice unintentionally triggers it.

    • international version actually means no ads but more expensive

Chinese ver will have ads but much cheaper

  • It doesn't seem to be particularly good from the reviews?

    • +2

i have been using the non-international version for couple of years, pretty happy with it. i saw one of the reviewers complaining it didn't come with a memory card…

      • i think i am using the same one, it only recognises Chinese voice right?
been on my dash for years now, and it is still working.
prop for the adhesive still working strong under the aussie sun xD

        • +1

i never speak to it but it scared the poo out of me sometimes the lady voice randomly says something

          • @UncleCheapSteam: I’ve often wondered what the hell that random voice is saying but it keeps on trucking so meh

            • @4foxache: It's saying "traffic light turns green", "caution for 60km/h speed limit" sort of things. In mandarin.

  • I bought this for $51.95 from the same seller 3 weeks ago. Can confirm that it's English version and so far I'm pretty happy with the image quality. It does become a bit warm when it operates.

  • +1

I have the very first 70mai (i don't know if this is the same version as that, but looks exactly the same),
have been 2 years in front of my windshield, it still rock solid and recording no problem.

    cashrewards %3.5 too!

Bought 1st version which was Chinese couple of years ago, upgraded firmware to International(English), still going strong. We had +49 here in Western Sydney recently, no problems with Cam.

Just bought one for the wife.

    • For wife? 🤔

      • You dropped this 'the'.

        • +3

          The wife need Dashcam?

          • +10

@superforever: Probably for the wife's car. In my experience they get mad if you stick a dashcam to their forehead.

            • +4

@Spun: Is it because you didn’t prep the surface with alcohol wipes? The forehead can get oily.

            • -2

@Spun: Which hole did you plug in the power supply?

          • @superforever: Self confession of where you go after work. Lol

  • +1

I probably have previous version and I notice that the camera position changed easily when I have to put the windscreen shade and took it off. Have to check everytime to ensure the camera point to the road and not to the sky or dashboard.

    • I'm not sure about the previous version, but mine (1S as in this post) has a screw knob on the side to tighten the mount.

  • Is this the best option at this price point?

  • Does it have a parking mode?

    • No.

    • +1

No but you could hardwire it and install a switch. This way it would stay on all the time until you flicked the switch off.

      Dashcamtalk review.

  • What happened to the blueskysea b1w deals

  • +1

    Great thanks, picked up two!

  • looking for a good dashcam that has one for back of car with reverse cam and parking included in it. adding these two will work? Sorry novice in this

    • No

  • Have got this the chinese version since it was first released. Picture is very good for a $50 cam. Have had no issue. The only voice you hear when you first turn the ignition on and if you put it into the Wi-Fi mode. Other than that the lady stays quiet.

  • I had 2 of the Chinese version for 2 years. No issues handling qld sun and car is never garaged. Only issue occurred recently where I cannot connect to the cam even when I’m connected to its wifi - was fine for 1.5y.

Does anyone have same issue with me or knows how to fix this issue?

    • Try turning the GPS and Mobile Data on/off.
My dash cam (not xiaomi) only connects with wifi on (obviously), GPS on, mobile data off.

    • Yeah I’ve had this problem. I read somewhere it’s a problem with the latest iOS..

  • I used the first original one for 6 months with no issues. Upgraded to the Viofo A129 Pro Duo cos I wanted dual camera and parking mode. How the 70mai is in my wife's car. It's hard to beat for the price if you just want basic 1080p recording.

  • I've got the Chinese version, works OK. Only issue is that it very quickly loses the time and resets to an arbitrary time and date. Does anyone else have this issue?

  • +1

Looks like a good deal. Ordered one. Thanks OP

  • Thanks op ordered 4

  • How does this draw power from the car?

How long is the provided cable?

    • Keen to know also.

      • I don't own one yet but other models I have bought come with a long cable to plug into the lighter socket. There is enough cable length to run it under the dash, up the side pillar & under the roof lining so it's all hidden.

  • Does this work fine if you don't have Wi-Fi?

    • Yes. Wifi allows you to access the videos without removing the memory card

    • It generates its own wifi signal that your phone then connects to to access the app. No internet is required unless you are wanting to upgrade the firmware.

  • can anyone share footage from this camera? please

    • +1

      look on youtube

  • Deal ended :(

    Back to $59.99

  • $57.99 now.

  • Do new cars come with built-in dashcams these days? Seems like something they should all have by default…
