Check your email if you have received a code to redeem a free membership to Qantas Wine Premium. I have tried the code on another account and it says redeemed (so it is unique).

Yeah pretty much. Go onto the qantas wine store, add a case of something to your cart and leave it there. A couple of days later you'll get a call from them asking why didn't you purchase and try and up sell you to a another package with some more expensive wines but the premium membership fee is waived. Just say I want those particular wines in my cart and bargain the membership. Voila they'll waive it.
If only this works on flights. Add an Economy Class flight to your cart and leave it there. A couple of days later you'll get a call from them asking why didn't you purchase and try and up sell you to another seat class but the upgrade fee is waived. :-)

is this like the $99 frequent flyer membership fee?
As in no one really pays it?
