  • How does this work? Is it just a key for Steam or do I have to use this Impulse program?

    Cheers.

    • "IMPORTANT NOTICE: This game requires a 3rd party client to download, install and play." It's activated on steam, they give you a code for the steam redeemable games.

      • Thanks heaps.

Scroll down to the 'System Requirements' section and you'll see it says "Requires a free Steam account to install & play."

  • A bargain definitely. But with Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 just around the corner, is it worth it?

    • +1

if you havent played or own mw2, id say it is most definitely worth it.

      • Yeah milkguru is right. MW2 is nowhere near as good as MW but it's worth playing. Multiplayer is OK too, though the lack of dedicated servers is annoying.

    • Traditionally Steam offers the predecessor cheap just before the new title is released. I'd guess it'd be around this same price though.

      • CoD series is 50% off on Steam at the moment and even at half price it isn't anywhere near as good as this deal.

It'll probably drop down to around $25 eventually but that'll be at least another 12 months away.

  • Aren't there some issues with Steam banning accounts etc due to buying from sites like this? I ask out of genuine curiosity, I've never bought games from this sort of website, but have heard of problems

Considering they're owned by GameStop (the largest gaming retailer in the USA), I doubt you'd have any issues.

Impulse is not dodgy CD key site selling Indian keys, they are a major distributor.

  • Decided to take the plunge.

"This order has been queued for processing by customer service. You will receive an email within one business day, at which time you will be charged and your products delivered."

Just a heads up, it's not instant.

Edit: Just came through. So, that's a bit over 30mins turnaround.

Edit2: So yes, they force you to install and run their mediocre client to get the CD KEY. From there, it's just entering it into Steam, and voila, activated ("Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Digital Retail" on the activation receipt).

    • I've only received the "Thank You For Shopping with Impulse" e-mail. Am I supposed to do something with that or is their another e-mail afterwards? I bought mine at about 8:30pm and still nothing besides from that as the last e-mail… Cheers.

      • The "Thank You For Shopping with Impulse" email is the payment receipt so the game has now been added to your account. You'll have to download and install the Impulse client to redeem your serial to activate on Steam. Once you've installed it, run it, log in and then go to the 'My Games' tab. Right click CoD:MW2 and select 'View Registration'. Copy that serial and activate it on Steam and you're good to go (after you download of course).

      • If that email started with "Your order from Impulse was successful.", you can now get the game. Download Impulse, login, go to your 'My Games' tab (when it loads - took a little while first time), and you have your CD KEY. (and can now uninstall Impulse, if you wish)

        Edit: Beaten by 1sec.

        • Haha cheers for the help guys.

    • I like Impulse, I have the client already. They have lots of great games on there, and they don't have DRM unlike steam.

      • A significant majority of titles from the large publishers seem to be not available for Australia, unfortunately. And a lot of the rest can be had for the same price in better editions on gog.com (GoodOldGames - also DRM free).

Though yes, I do agree with the DRM sentiment.

You dont have to install it, they email you the serial.

      • The email doesn't come with the serial. It actually say in the email body:

        "SERIAL NUMBERS

If your software is prompting for a serial number when run, you can right click on its entry in Impulse and select "View Registration" to access that title's serial. You also have the option to copy the serial number to the clipboard for easy pasting."

        • Mine did…

        • Oh wow, interesting! I paid by Paypal, if that makes any difference. But yeah, definitely no serial in the email for me.

        • I paid by Paypal too.. maybe its because I already had Impulse? Who knows :S

  • Ok putting my email into their support page helped!

  • Amazing bargain!

    • They email you the serial code.

  • Sale back on today for those that missed out …
