normal price, also the bulb is more than the lamp itself
i saw these ages ago… pretty sure 2 bux was the normal price even back then (start of the year) biggest issue was finding a globe to fit… think most of them cost about 5 times the lamp!
edit damn beaten by 35 seconds!!! shouldnt have typed so much!
Biggest issue was getting a bulb? WTF?
The bulbs are in the same department at Kmart. See ranmalynx 's post below - $2.50 for a 2-pack.
Been $2 for a while now. There's plenty at Chadstone. There's a similar plastic study lamp for $2 as well.
Yeah, I think max is 25W.
These are pretty cool. Nice find, cause if it wasn't for this post I would never have known about them!
These lamps take the small screw-in bulbs (E14). They are expensive.
Wonder what has happened to all the B22 or E27 lamps. They've completely disappeared.
Assuming there's enough room inside the lamp, perhaps something like this would do the trick?
E14 globes cost exactly the same as any other base. You should pay about $1.50 or $2 each for a cheap (Mirabella) Fancy Round.
There isn't enough height to use a standard size bulb anyway, or a lamp base adapter. The lamp shade has ZERO ventilation, so the bulb needs to be kept as far as possible away from the plastic.
The best alternative would be something like a 5 or 7W CFL, the kind they use for chandeliers.
I think its a case of Kmart sourcing goods that are the cheapest. E14 is more common in the US. It's either left over stock or the factory churns out enough to offer the price Kmart is seeking.
Got a Mirabella 2-pack E14's for $2.50 to go with the $2 study lamp at Kmart Chatswood.
I concur that max wattage is 25W.
My wife came home with one of these for the baby's room earlier this year - already had a few spare globes in the cupboard so for $2 it worked out very well - much better then falling over furntiture when the baby wakes in the middle of the night.
These have been $2 at my local Kmart for as long as I can remember (at least Easter). They still have heaps of them left.
I bought them to get the cord and inline switch, as a switch alone is almost $10 at Bunnings)… and it's a big ugly thing.
After disassemby and scavenging the wiring, I chucked the lamps away. They are really cheap and nasty looking, but I guess OK for a kid's room.
You are clever!
The black seemed the least-kiddish when I saw them. =)
Yes, it makes with 100% plastic, don't want to risk to burn my house with this $2 thing!
Don't know why all K-marts lamps are come only with E14 sockets! The bulbs are cost at least $6 for one. Need to get a socket convertor from DealExtreme(cost <$2) to use the normal bulb, still got plenty from those free energy bulbs give away!
Good deal, even though they've been $2 for a while.
Plastic and heat = interesting lava lamp and available at Melton (get it)
What is the maximum wattage allowed - 40w at a guess?
