    Same price for Christchurch.

        South island > north island

Somebody hasn't been to the South island..

        • -3

Travelled South Island about 30 times. Queenstown is closer to all major attractions. Christchurch is boring at bat and the city is still trashed. Wellington is best city in NZ.

          • +5

@UberIsCool: To say Christchurch is still trashed is a little extreme. For people who haven't been there 30 times, The drive from Christchurch to Queenstown is incredible. I'd always recommend doing that instead of flying directly to Queenstown.

@youfnc: The flight into Queenstown is pretty special too. Do both if you can I guess.

            • @youfnc: Know how to do it right and you can drive the other way for $2. Christchurch is for old people.

            • +1

@youfnc: plus rentals are much cheaper out of christchurch than QT. And closer to the craigieburn area which is one of my favourite places in the south TBH

          • @UberIsCool: Lol @ Wellington is the best.

That place is windy af, why would anyone wanna be there?

            • @montorola: Windy? Never when I’m there. Wellington = Some of the best breweries in the world. Waterfront cafes are gorgeous. Te Papa museum is free and good. Art Deco buildings. Ferry to South Island. Train north through Tongariro. Ferniculer up the hill. Cuba St goes off. Coffee shops are amazing. Cheap 5 star hotels. Massive wildlife nature reserve. Super fast from airport into town.

              @montorola: Kite flying. Da Bomb.

  • Queenstown is the best place to visit, isn’t it? I am thinking between Auckland and Queenstown.

    • Queenstown over Auckland any day. Also drive up to Wanaka, it’s nice, only an hour drive.

    • +1

110%. The South Island is unbelievably beautiful, I would totally suggest flying in to Christchurch and then drive down through Tekapo and Wanaka on your way to QT. Stay a night in Te Anau then head to Milford Sound.

  • Those people who don't hold Oz citizenship or PR has to bear the cost of NZ tourist tax too (47 bucks).

    • Where is the tax?

      • NZ.

      • That's part of the visa fee, and not related to airfare!!

  • If your in Auckland you can head down to Taupo (the north island version of Queenstown with less Australian-Bali style tourists) the surrounding wine regions and Wellington.

  • Thanks, never been to Auckland got a ticket for 3 days / 2 nights over long weekend in June.
