  • I booked mine over the weekend @ 4%. Any chances they can match?

    • Book the same again, and cancel the other booking?

    Tenmporary Triple cashback offer

    Expires: Feb 26, 2020, 9:59:00 AM

  • Can't use for flights I see. Or correct me if I am wrong.

    • Cashback is eligible on accommodation bookings only. Any non-accommodation bookings (flights, car rentals, etc) are ineligible for cashback.

before you book you should compare the prices when you click through cashrewards vs not

    • Yep, there has been one instance for me where it actually worked out more expensive when clicking through cashback.

It's not super common, but definitely worth to double check.

    • As all good Ozbargainers do! :)

    • Also check mobile vs desktop I get different prices mobile being cheaper

    • Yep, made 2 bookings recently and both were marked up when going through referral links.

  • Hello ozbargainers I am not able to change the currency. Does it always show only in Euros? I am looking at flights btw

    • Cashback is eligible on accommodation bookings only. Any non-accommodation bookings (flights, car rentals, etc) are ineligible for cashback.

      • Thanks TA. Didn’t read it properly :( btw does it allow only Euros?

        • +1

All hotel bookings are quoted in AUD. However, your tracking email will show the purchase amount in EUR:

Your transaction amount will display in EUR in your My Rewards. Your Cashback amount will be converted to AUD.

  • Does this only work for prepayment hotel bookings?
I'm look at hotel that only has 1 booking option available with "NO PREPAYMENT NEEDED - pay at the property"

So i guess i book now by clicking through cashrewards. Would i still get my 12% even if i didn't pay for the hotel today or pay through booking.com at all?

Any hotel booking is fine, whether it's prepaid or postpaid. And tracking is very quick for Booking.com. If you haven't received notification within 90 minutes, something is/went wrong.

      • I booked 4 hotels around 9AM this morning and still haven't got the tracking notifications. Other purchases have tracked fine on the same PC/browser.

        • I'm seeing similar - haven't yet received a tracking notification for a booking this morning (click recorded 08:12 AM / booking confirmation 08:22 AM AEDT)

        • Thanks TA for sorting this out, you're a legend mate!

  • Would this be better than the long-running Hotels.com Rewards program (up to 10% back towards future stays) plus 2.8% cashrewards?

  • i got my tracking email fairly quickly. Is this a one use only offer?

Unlimited redemptions. Ends Wed 9:59AM AEDT.

Pro-tip: Get the best price you can from Booking.com (ie the non-refundable deal) - DON'T BOOK - and then immediately contact the hotel directly with a pricing enquiry

Source: Me. Last weekend we finished booking 35 mights' accommodation in UK and throughout Europe. A family member gave me the heads-up on how much fat there is in Booking.com's prices. Saved close to $420 on the Paris hotel alone (just over $85/night cheaper by going direct) and a minimum of $31 per night in every other location. All-up, we saved close to $1300 by booking directly with hotels.

Booking.com makes things VERY easy…but convenience comes at a price (and with some shady business practices….especially some of the behavioural nudges they use)

    • Prices are set by the hotels not booking.com. Can I ask what percentage you saved as opposed to the $$ amount? It is definitely common practice for some hotels to give 10% or so off if you go direct and mention the online price you saw. Booking.com generally charge them a 15% commission on all pre tax totals.
Some are happy to discount, some are not as they prefer more bookings via those platforms as it generates more reviews thus more activity on their page vs competitors. Ive even visited reception in the morning at some places to extend my stay and been told if I want their best rate ill need to extend on booking.com as their walk in rate is higher, which works for me, i was trying to help them but got my cashback instead :-)
The reason I ask the % you saved is cause the hotel are doing themselves a massive disservice if they are not offering their best available rate on booking.com.

Can I ask what percentage you saved as opposed to the $$ amount?

Of course you can. Lowest saving was 11.08% (our hotel in Marktoberdorf, Germany) and the highest saving 18.39% (the hotel in 11th Arr. Paris).

And the 11.08% discount in Marktoberdorf was technically higher as the package the hotel offered us also included a buffet breakfast which was not an available option on Booking.com

  • Time to cancel last night's booking and rebook.

    • I'm not convinced that worked… I guess I'll find out in the morning if it tracked properly.

      • All good. :)

  • Hey TA, I made a booking during one of the recent 9% cashbacks, the email notification I got said it'd been tracked for eg 240AUD return, but on My rewards page it says eg.180AUD, do I need to lodge a claim or will it fix itself?

To make it more complicated, the booking has been updated by booking.com's staff to increase by 2 nights stay so would not have tracked. Cashrewards' My Rewards page has updated the amount of the booking but not the Cashback/savings. Will this fix itself as well?

Hi. Your CR email would have shown the sale amount in EUR. Cashback is calculated in AUD off this reported amount

Your transaction amount will display in EUR in your My Rewards. Your Cashback amount will be converted to AUD.

Further, the fact the booking was changed (irrespective of who changed it) is a concern, as this likely means Booking.com will decline the transaction

You won’t earn Cashback if an order is cancelled, changed or returned.

  • Why doesn’t Cashrewards open the Booking.com app? Very annoying

  • ends 9:59am :(

  • Can’t wait for the next deal to come back again (Cashrewards or Shopback). Saved so much money booked for a long trip!
