I recently re-signed up to them after using them and Hello Fresh in the past. 90% of the veggies are fresh, you get the odd carrot that looks a bit rough. Portions are generally not huge, but definitely enough to fill me up.
For me it works out $25 per night for two people. 3 nights a week. Yes it is cheaper to go to the shops, buy the ingredients and google a recipe.
But I like this for the convenience, branching out on a weeknight and cooking something fun besides the same boring midweek meal.I've used Hello Fresh (same type of service, same concept) before and found it ok but couldn't justify it.
Apart from the convenience of the deliveries, we found:
- we still needed to do shopping (for other things) so it didn't save that trip
- certainly more expensive than buying locally
- we were concerned about how many 'food miles' the produce had racked up by the time it was delivered
- the recipes (Hello Fresh, Marley, probably others) are all online, so we could review those for ideas anyway.
I'm be weary of Marley Spoon after trying their 'Dinnerly' service. Yes I know Dinnerly is a cheap version and the food wouldn't be so good, it made me hate having to cook dinner by the end of the week (tried it for 2 weeks).
For example, one dinner was an 'enchilada'. This was cooked plain rice wrapped in a tortilla with diced tomatoes from a can tipped over it.
I cancelled the second I could and went back to Hello Fresh, been using them for 2 years.
Can anyone confirm the minimum spend on this in the end? For example if I get 2 meals for 2 people and apply this code, hoe much is it? Does the $8.95 shipping still apply? I haven’t been able to apply the code without having to first give away my address and cc details..
Anyone got personal experience using these guys? Value for money? Crap veggies? ect?
