Xaomi Mi 9T Wrong Country Prefix

I've tried searching for answers and hoping someone here can help.

Recently got a xaiomi mi9t from JB. However whenever opening a phone number from a link the incorrect country code is added. I've determined this is dependent on the system language, eg if using english UK, +44 is added.

Changing the region does nothing nor does changing the prefix setting in the dialler app. The same issue occurs if using another dialler such as true dialler.

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

edit: found a solution from user Nukkels on whirpool:

  1. Install app 'MoreLocale 2' and then setup your locale by creating new and selecting english and australia.

  2. add developer options by going to settings > about phone and tapping the version a number of times.

  3. Enable Developer options > enable USB debugging > enable USB debugging (security settings) – note that you need to sign in with a Mi account before you can enable that one

  4. Connect the phone to your PC via USB cable and then pull down on the phone's notification bar and select 'file transfer (MTP)' mode

  5. Download this zip file: https://dl.google.com/android/repository/platform-tools-late… – Extract it to somewhere easy (such as C:\adb)

  6. Open a command prompt in this directory (shift+right click > open command prompt / powershell window here) and then run the following command:
    .\adb shell pm grant jp.co.c_lis.ccl.morelocale android.permission.CHANGE_CONFIGURATION

  7. In the MoreLocale 2 app, you can now select your locale (you can ignore the USB connection notification)

Comments

  • Why not use English (Australia) in language or is that not an option?

  • Maybe go back to JB and ask them for assistance.

They are usually pretty good providing advice.

  • +1

My Redmi Note 5 does exactly the same thing. English (Australia) is not an language option.

    • well at least it's not unique to me.

      • Our One plus has the English ( Australia) option. Surprised that the Xaiomi doesn't.

    • I've added a solution that solved it in the body
