Any opinions on the best stain remover or are they all the same?
I am a textile chemist and used to make cleaning compounds prior to my current role. These type of products work by oxidising (and decolourising) stains using the oxygen generating peroxide component, plus they have a surfactant it to try to pull the staining material off the fibre into the water phase but without attacking the dye on the fabric. For a lot of stains they work well, the main different will be from brand to brand of how much peroxide is available, and what surfactants they use, I would say all the good ones will be comparable, but they may work slightly better or worse on specific stain type depending what the detergent choice is.
Ultimately if a stain has bond to the fibre chemcially, then it will be hard to shift, best thing is to get a stain into the wash / treatment as soon as possible to reduce the time the stain can chemically bind (though some stains can still be bleached / decolourised)
I find that if you make a strong mix of this stuff plus regular detergent (1 scoop each in a 9l bucket) and soak your shirts etc. overnight, you get great results. Using it regularly in a regular cycle just doesn’t give enough time for it to work.
