Full Refund for QANTAS Travellers impacted by Coronavirus / Quarantine

I had a domestic flight within Australia booked prior to leaving for my holiday in China.

This domestic flight was scheduled for within 14 days of my return…. needless to say, when I booked it in early December, self-quarantining was not anticipated…

Saw on QANTAS' website that they have a waiver form. I had to select one of the following options.

https://www.qantas.com/flight/recovery/coronavirus/waiverfor…

  • You have a booking to fly from Australia to mainland China between 1 - 8 February 2020
  • You are flying to Australia and have been to mainland China within 14 days of your date of arrival
  • You are flying to a country with immigration restrictions and have been to mainland China within 14 days of your date of arrival, including New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore or the United States of America
  • You are flying to Singapore and are a People's Republic of China national and do not hold Permanent Residency or a long-term residential visa for Singapore

None of these matched my scenario, so I just selected the (Edit) first second one. In less than 24 hours, I had a response saying everything was processed. Frequent flyer points were returned almost immediately, however still waiting on the other charges on my credit card to be refunded.

Just thought I'd let others now

  • "None of these matched my scenario, so I just selected the first one."
lying is not a bargain :)

    • I made a mistake, it was the second one I chose..

Furthermore, my domestic flight was with QANTAS…

I'm still self-quarantining. Not lying, figured if there was an issue someone would call, given the fact QANTAS can see the flight that I booked with them, that I am trying to get a refund for.

  • "Frequent flyer points were returned almost immediately" Was this a points booking?

    • Yes it was. But there's still other charges on top of the flight, i.e. fuel taxes or whatever.

      The email I received:

This is to confirm that the requested refund for booking reference xxxxxx has been processed back to the same form of payment that you used to make your original purchase. The nominated bank or financial institution may take some time to >process the funds back to this bank account.

If you requested a refund for a booking made using Qantas Points (e.g. a Classic Flight Reward or Points Plus Pay- Flight booking), please allow up to 10 business days for the Qantas Points to be credited to the nominated Frequent Flyer account >in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of the fare. The monetary component has been processed back to the same form of payment that you used to make your original purchase. The nominated bank or financial institution may take some >time to process the funds back to this bank account.

      Thanks,
      Qantas Refunds Team

      • You can normally cancel a rewards booking, they tend to put the points back in same day and money is generally back to me within 10 days from the times Ive had to do it.

        • +1

From what I could see online, was going to cost me 6,000 points to cancel/change. They refunded the whole lot.

          • @mafroew: Very nice, good work getting the 6k refunded as well.
