Boost/Telstra - Pre paid deals - New Activation = New Customer

Hi Just wanted to get a general consensus.

Recently Boost launched the $150 deal for 120GB.

So I contacted their support to verify that if I buy the sim I can port my existing number to them. (boost to boost)

I was told that the new sims come with a new number and that I will not be able to transfer my existing number to the sim (from Boost or any other provider).

They advised me that the offer is for new clients only

I lodged the complaint with Boost/Telstra as I believe that this is misleading advertising and nowhere does it state that the deal is for new customers.

Telstra contacted me and advised me through their complaints manager that when its states

"Available to customers who buy a $150 SIM online and activate between 18.02.20 & 30.03.20." that means new customers only.

Wanted to know if this my misunderstanding or should I forward the issue to the TIO.

Available to customers who buy a $150 SIM online and activate between 18.02.20 & 30.03.20.

Makes perfect sense that it is new customers only. Existing customers wont need to activate a sim card at all…

If you read through the deal, people are porting out of Boost and then back in

That has NOTHING to do with whether you can port in from another provider or not. But it does imply new customers. Buying a SIM means activating a service. New customers. You added a dimension of understanding that the advert did not.

Buy a $2 vodafone sim, port out to that, port back in as a new customer.

    • I have just tried this and Boost are telling me I need to wait 28 days before porting back in. Is this something you have experienced before?

  • So if you move from Telstra to Boost does that make you a new customer?

So I contacted their support to verify that if I buy the sim I can port my existing number to them. (boost to boost)

Boost to Boost isnt a port IN.

You are just using a prepaid new customer offer to recharge an existing account.

You have to be a customer outside of Boost to port IN

So you have to port OUT to another Telco so you can now port IN

It like you cant enter a house if you are already inside, you step out, then step back in.
