What are some of the best watches (dress and casual) for $500-$800?

Just a kid looking for a nice watch to wear everyday.

    • the only watch worth buying in that price range is an Apple Watch

…and then get ready to buy another one in 2-3 years when Apple decides to stop supporting that version.

      • Still rocking the original S0 Apple Watch ordered on 10 Apr 2015. Works perfectly fine and daily Apple Pay use. Not a bad run. Can only imagine the newer ones are even better.

  • Melbourne Watch Company would have a couple of nice dress watches within that budget.

Not much really. Stick to Seiko and Orient with that budget, you could get a few. Seiko SKX007 Diver and Orient Bambino for dress watch would be a good start.

I'd save yourself some cash and get a Citizen in the 200-300 range.

Apple watch series 5, always on face, with a $10 Milanese loop band or fake leather band.

People recommending Apple watches - please stop. They have no class, bear the dreaded Apple name and are superceeded every few years. For someone looking for a nice watch which looks good and has class, this isn't even an option.

  • A Seiko Presage - lots of different choices! I personally own the SARX045.

  • Used Casio G-Shock gprb1000 if you like rugged bulky look

I'm a big fan of Armani watches, you can get a really nice one for around the 500-700 mark, i got one a few years back and it still looks great.

  • Wait for a deal you like and pounce, https://www.manontime.com/viewtopic.php?p=51255#p51255. Try to see the watch in person just to make sure it's the one for you. Lots of wrist shots on watch forums, search there if you can't get to a shop. https://forums.watchuseek.com/forum.php, https://forum.tz-uk.com/forum.php, https://thewatchforum.co.uk/. Take your time to mitigate instant regret - been there, done that, got the t-shirt, just like every other watch collector.LOL Some good advice from somebody who knows what he is talking about, https://forums.watchuseek.com/f71/list-what-i-told-budding-w….

  • Seiko Presage

  • Depends on your needs - for a classic "dress" watch, you want something smaller (around 36mm), with white(ish) face and black/brown leather strap ( You can change this to match your shoes/belt).

However, menswear trends are for "bigger" watches at the moment.

I wear an orient classic date, 36mm every day - I have "small" wrists and it works perfectly with a suit. It stays on the metal strap 90% of the time, except when I wear a suit and I change the strap to leather. https://www.orient-watch.com/Collections/ORIENT/Classic/ORIE….

This watch also comes in 40mm size for "Larger" wrists. https://www.orient-watch.com/Collections/ORIENT/Classic/ORIE…

… But I recommend the smaller one as a "Do it all watch". Only note that you can't swim with it - but I don't know why you would want to.

  • Another vote for Seiko Presages, plenty of flavours to choose from, though they are a bit dressy imo.
Probably worth checking out new Seiko 5 sports or the Hamilton Khaki King as well, they are more versatile especially if you’re willing to switch between bracelet and straps.

  • Good choice from a well-known member of Ozbargain, https://www.starbuy.com.au/outlet-sale/mens-ladies-watches-o…

  • If you really arent an enthusiast I wouldnt even bother spending that much.

There's nothing at all wrong with a cheap sub $250 Orient Seiko quartz or auto watch.

I do get why people say Presage but they generally are quite large for what they are… if you're a 6ft plus guy you can get away with a 42mm watch but I believe a casual watch should be 38-40mm…

My casual use watch is 42mm 12mm thick and its about as big as I'd want. Why would you want a 45mm 14mm thick dress watch???

I often think of expensive watches as like expensive cars… if you're not a big time fan and cant tell the difference between a Camry or a Mercedes then why go to the expense of a Mercedes… they all do the same thing.
