Is It OK to Buy a Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra or Wait?

I am sort of interested in S20 Ultra which is currently on pre-orders and comes with a bonus galaxy buds +. I this a good idea to buy this phone on installments (Just the phone without a plan) or wait for offers from JB hIFI/Telstra like the one that offered $400/$500 gift card upon signing up a 12 months sim plan with telstra.

This is the same guy/lady who once asked us if their missus was pregnant….

Hope the baby is doing well OP :) Personally I would wait for the price to go down.

of course wait. never buy newly released. be smart. now is the best time to buy second hand good condition of galaxy s10 from those fanboi who upgraded their mobile once a year.

Wait for the S40 and the S20 should be a good price.

  • According to my local JB, they always have a gift card deal going on for number porting over. Just need to ask about it.

But usually the majority of discounts happen now during pre-order. You'd have to way 6-12 months for things to change.

  • It is ok.

  • Phone is fine

    • Are you sure?

  • When buying android phone, its always best to wait a couple of months.

looked at the deals history of the s10 range on ozb and you could get the phone for over 300$ less by the 3rd month after its release and then the price steadied for many months after that. but I have a feeling the price won't drop that much, that soon.
Even so, you could flip the buds+ and nearly breakeven with that amount you'd save by waiting it out.

Not sure what to do myself tbh

    • If you are looking at purchasing the phone telco plans from JB etc can generally get you $400 or so off but does mean you are tied to the plan. You can find solid EPP based discounts up to about 15-20% off just by sifting through OzBargain.

However, there does seem to be people selling 50% EPP codes via OzB Classifieds and there is thread there. It would make for the best possible discount even factoring the cost of the code itself.

  • I am wondering the same thing! I would like the Ultra by June , as I am going away on a holiday then and want to make use of the camera. However, not sure if to wait a few month to see if the price will drop or buy now and get the buds? Since i dont have buds and there is no jack in this, I guess I will need them anyway.. ?!

Was thinking to buy outright for $2,000 but Woolworths mobile offering offering it for 24 months for $100 pm on the basic plan with 5GB, which equals $2,077 . So would make more sense to do the plan?

    • I was in the same situation last year. After I took my G6 to the trip and realised I should have upgrade to Pixel 3 or somthing before leaving. Newer phones have superior cameras and there is no doubt. I think go with Woolworths plan. Its seriously tempting!

Might be worth it for you to wait for people to start selling their 50% off EPP codes. Would make the phone significantly cheaper than any other possible alternative.

eg. The S20 Ultra is $2000. The cheapest way to buy it atm is via this deal for $1600. However to access that you need to already have an EPP account or know someone willing to lend you theirs (otherwise trust someone to place an order on your behalf).

Using a 50% off code however would make the phone $1000. So even if you were to buy a code off someone for $500, you'd still only be paying $1500, which is significantly cheaper than the next best deal, let alone the actual rrp which is what all the pre-orders will be at for now.

  • Who is eligible for this EPP discount, so I know who to ask? Is it just people who work for the Teleco companies or stores like JB hi fi?

Also not sure about the Woolworths deal, as the total cost is actually $2400 ($100pm) including phone and basic plan. I miscalculated it in the post above. Still a couple of hundred dollars cheaper than Vodafone or Optus.. but there is no 5G capablities on woolworth optus network…
